Longbob you definitely got that right. It made me think of my wife and her automobile accident in 2007 and what the Orthopedic Doctors did to her right ankle and leg to put them back together after the accident. They saved her right leg and she's made a 98% recovery from her injuries. If the accident had happened ten or fifteen years earlier she might have lost the leg.

Question for the Docs, do broken bones often require plates and screws like shown in the video, or was it likely that they were just shown for educational purposes?

Bruinruin I'm not a Doc, but the Orthopedic Surgons put three steel plates and over twenty plus screws in the wife's right leg and ankle in putting it back together. She really lights up the Security Scanners when goes through them.
