[quote=458 Lott]As much as I've enjoyed Elmer Keiths writings, I think you'll find an LFN style bullet of the same weight will be more accurate and over a broader range of velocities than a Keith SWC. The swc isn't a bad design, but it isn't the best or most refined.

Here's a worthwhile read on the keith swc design and molds

100% true. It comes down to alignment of the cylinder with the cone and the Keith is just not the best. The nose does not contact the rifling and the little edge can be wiped off making the boolit off center. That edge does nothing at all except make a rounder hole in paper.
I shoot nothing but cast and even make my own molds. I will not make a Keith because a RNFP, WLN or WFN will shoot better.
Let the nose pull the cylinder in line when it hits the cone.
I made a boolit with a nose to match my cone of 11* and shot this group at 200 yards. [Linked Image]
My boolit from a .500 JRH shot this at 50 yards when working loads. [Linked Image]
The one hole in the top of this can is 5 shots at 100 yards with cast. Yes, you can make them better then store bought.

I cast for these calibers: .308 (but have .310 + sizing dies), 357 Mag/38 special (.360 sizing dies), 45 acp (.452" sizing), 45 Colt (.454" sizing), 45-70 (.460" sizing).

Most are RCBS, SAECO, and some older Ideals. I have also, and like quite well, "custom" molds by NOE (Night Owl Enterprises). The are quite active on castboolits.com. I have a 5 cavity 358-150 Keith bullet that is wonderfully accurate from my SW model 14 38 special and SW 586/357 mag.

NOE are well made molds. Check out the vendor sponsored sales forum on castboolits.com for many of there molds. They take traditional favorites, and use properly dimensioned cherries for cavity. A+ in my book for NOE.

tlfw...

If you follow the links 458Lott posted, you can read Glenn Frixell's articles on the Keith bullets and their utility. Frixell has a lot of good writing out on the innanet and is one of the best cast bullet writers I've come across... very low bullshit levels and a lot of good technical information without any of the "air of superiority" you find among so many "experts" out there.
