Hi Guy's,
I generally drink Beer, but thought I might try bourbon. I have tried Jim Beam white label, black label, and devils cut. I kinda like black label, the other two has to much whiskey burn to it.
Was wondering what the next step up would be, without spending a fortune ?
Thanks Guy's jr1968

Welcome to the world of bourbon. It is all good, some just much better!
My favorites are Elijah Craig 18 yr old and Blanton's, with Eagle Rare right next to them.

woodford reserve or knob creek. both great sipping whiskeys. Excellent choices. For one without the burn, you might try Basil Hayden's. Or was it Blanton's? Prolly best to be thorough, & try 'em both. FC

If you want smooth with no burn try Basil Hayden, it is a Jim Beam small batch bourbon. It is my favorite bourbon.

Evan Williams Single Barrel is nice and not hyperpriced. You may also like to try Scotch and Irish. For a Scotch starter try (I'll probably get my chops busted) Dewars. If you can find Grand Macnish that's truly a "value priced" starter Scotch that surprised me, even though it had been recommended by a gentleman who made drinking a priority. Irish is another route around the heavy bourbon taste. Again for starters I'd go Jameson with Bushmill a very close second. All things in moderation. Enjoy.

I'm certainly no expert, but I think it's tough to top Makers Mark.
Bourbon is the only whiskey I'll touch.

Start by using a glass. Leave drinking straight from the bottle for the pros.

Stick to 90 proof - 102 makes you fall down.

Lots of good suggestions for starter bourbons here. Once you decide you have a taste for bourbon, try Bookers. It's my favorite sipping whiskey.
