Planning a safari in Tanzania. One option is to fly Emirate into Dubai (UAE) stop for 24 hours and then fly on to Dar Es Salaam. Has anyone done this with a hunting rifle as checked baggage? How did it go? Airline website speaks in terms of permission from the Airport Police and Dubai Aviation Admin.

Has anyone done this? What was your experience?
Thanks
Bob

I hate to say this, but go over to www.accuratereloading.com and post your question. There have been several posts about it with some mixed reviews.

we are going to Namibia in June. We are spending the night in Frankfurt on the way. We picked Frankfurt as I had been told by numerous folks it was the most hunter friendly and easiest to deal with firearms. Have not made the trip yet, but so far permits were easy, all done by email, customs will hold the firearms at the airport for us. I'll post up about June 15 and let you know, but so far pretty easy.

Bob, I actually live in TZ and just did this last month. Long guns and pistol. NO problems whatsoever! Smooth as could be. Do yourself a favor and use travelwithguns in San Antonio. Susan was absolutely great to work with. Well worth the $$. Good luck.

I made the trip to Dar thru Dubai about 5 years ago.

You need to call Emmerates airlines a couple weeks in advance to let them know you'll be checking a rifle as luggage.

Checked it at NYC picked it up at DAR smooth as silk. If you have a layover talk to Emerates, they are very friendly.
