Are these worth it? Local store has them for $150. Change the bolt and bolt carrier and the magazine. The 22LR mag has a 25 shot single stack capacity.

I have 2 , they are awesome. It always makes me giggle to unload several magazines for 1/10 of the price of normal loads. I have both a CMMG and a Target master. I shoot cheapo federal bullk 22s.

How accurate are these conversion kits?

How much does it change the point of impact vs the 223?

I just like the idea of having something I can quickly change in the field if hunting conditions change or in a SHTF situation. .223 can kill just about anything east of the Mississippi with the right bullets and loads, (I reload). .22LR can kill any kind of small game for food in the woods if needed.

If they work, I definitely wanna get one. My main concern is how well it loads and extracts the rounds

They are accurate enough for plinking and rabbit hunting. The ones I have used (Colt and Ciener) would do about 2 inches or a bit less at 25 yards in a 1/7 or 1/9 twist. In a 1/12, the accuracy can be a little better. The kits are about 98% reliable in my experience. When they get dirty, you'll start getting misfeeds and failures to eject, and some AR's seem to work better with kits than others..

Your point of impact will be quite a bit low with the .22 LR if sighted in with 5.56mm. If you have an A2 upper, you can crank the rear sight up to about the 400 yard setting and be on with .22 LR's at 50 yds.

You do need to clean the chamber carefully when switching back to .223.

Edited to agree with BarryC below: Since I got a S&W MP-22, I haven't used my conversion kits, except in a Ruger AC556.

I'd just buy a S&W .22 or a complete upper. You'll be much happier.

Heck, for $150 you could about buy a 10/22.

I agree that they will shoot quite a bit low. I usually get about an inch at 25 yards with mine. For my setup, I shoot a burris tac 30 scope. I sight in the 223 at 100 yards, and then when I use the 22 conversion kit, it will shoot dead on at 25 yard if I use the lowest "dot" on the scope. So, I can use both rounds and not have to re-sight in.

The conversion kits have been one of my favorite gun investments to date. I hardly shoot it in 223 any more unless I am hunting. It is too much fun to shoot all day for a few dollars with the conversion kit.

How do I post pics. I have just got back from the range. 100 yards with a 22 Conversion kit in .25 cent gorups. They work well.
