I have lived a wonderful life and have been blessed with being raised right in good country. I never partied or messed around and was a model son for my whole life. My father inculcated within me that the best strategy in life was to buy guns when they are great deals and not to sell them or trade them when you are hard up. I have followed this proviso for most of my life.
He was also a bit of a rebel liking the 308 more than the 30/06. He has never bought, sold or owned an 06.
My first rifle was an early 80s era weatherby vanguard with french walnut(probably got mixed in to the lots) in 300 Win Mag when I was 10 years of age. Since then I have purchased many different kinds of 300s, 7mms, 270s, 375s, a 458 and many other guns. I finally bought one three years ago. A Cooper Model 52 in 06. I liked it a lot. I bought a Husqvarna Hipower with FN Action in 06 the same year. Two years ago I bought a FN Model 70 FWT Deluxe in 06. Yesterday, I traded a 721 in fajen stock 300HH + a 660 Mohawk in 243 for a Sedgley 03 Sporter in 06 with a Lyman 48 Receiver sight.
Have you folks ever rebelled in a similar fashion against your old man?
Sincerely, Thomas

My dad doesn't hunt since he came back from Vietnam in the 60's . He doesn't have much use for firearms except to shoot the occasional coyote or put down an injured/sick animal on the ranch. He doesn't own any thing larger than a .22 LR or 12 gauge. So I don't know if I rebelled or not, he isn't against hunting and shooting he just isn't interested anymore.

AFAIK, all my Dad hunted with was a 303 jungle carbine. The same box of shells lasted him over 20yrs. The thought of owning more than one BG rifle and shooting it for fun would be rebelion to him.

JO rebels against much that makes sense, but that's only because he's a [bleep] idiot.

For many years, Dad had one CF rifle, an open sighted 336 in .30-30. He decided that coyote jihad required something more. He decided on a scoped .22-250. I got him a new 700 and a 6X Weaver from a friendly distributor and carried it to him. He never liked the scope, so within 3 months he had given the rifle to my nephew, and was back to coyote eradication with the Marlin. He gave another nephew his Winchester ss .22 from the twenties that I had rebuilt for him after it became too worn to use.
I gave him both as gifts with no strings attached. He was my Dad. His opinions were his own and I respect them. jack

I actually converted my Dad to a lot of my views on shooting and hunting. Dad came to hunting late in life, in his 40's or so. He was just really getting into it during the time when my brothers and I were enthusiastic beginners with more time to hunt and experiment with guns than he did. Dad started out shooting a .303 for moose and deer like most of us, and a 12 ga. pump for geese like everyone else did too. He eventually moved to a Remington 760 30-06 that held his attention for a long time. He quit goose hunting partly because he couldn't handle the recoil of heavy loads in that Ithaca featherweight pump gun. I finally talked him into trying a .270 bolt action Sauer and he loved its precision and quality. After explaining my love of good over and under shotguns he also picked up a 12 ga. Browning Superposed and found out that shooting shotguns was fun again. So my love of good bolt rifles and double shot guns rubbed off on him, not the other way around.

Well, my dad owns an original Springfield, a smith 19 and a Smith 66, and doesn't see a big need for a lot of guns, so I guess I rebelled there...
This is a shooting forum, there is no place here for logic.

I have rebelled quite often for no other reason than to try things that interest me. My Dad is a collector of military rifles from all generations since the advent of smokeless powder. He has two hunting rifles, a pre-64 M70 and a Husqvarna 8x57. He is the "I can hunt anything in NA with these rifles" kind of guy.
I've always been more interested in hunting rifles/cartridges and am willing to have more niche rifles than my Dad does. Oh, I also rebel by slumming push-feed rifles while Dad lives by CRF.

Id say so. My dad never owned a gun and wont go hunting with me. Seems he was deer hunting with my grandpa and uncles when he was a kid and had a bad experience when shooting a buck. Man to this day hasnt shot a gun.
Yup.
