on my 89 jeep cherokee when I turn on my blinkers they will turn on but will not blink. It is just a steady light instead of the ussuall blinking light. What could be causing this? and how do i fix it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" />

It could be your turn signal relay. Did you check the fuses first?

I`m remembering my youngest daughter calling me from college, wanting to know where the filler cap was for the blinker juice. Her blinkers had stopped working on her VW. :-)

It could be a buld is burned out, or one of the bulbs in the socket is not making good contact as it could be corroded, causing a bad ground. It could also be a bad or poor ground in the wiring, or could be the flasher relay. Also sometimes the blinker mechenisum in the steering columb that the blinker arm is attached to, goes bad.

It can be time consuming finding the problem, around here they get 85.00 Hr in the shops to fix such problems. I'd start with the bulbs.

If the turn signal arm does not give you a positive up, down, and center click, there is a spring in there that likes to brake, and sometimes the plastic piece the arm screws to likes to crack, causing such problems.

Good luck........

Usually means that the rear bulb is out. A fast blinker means the front bulb is out. I had an 89 cherokee and that would sometimes happen if I drove through standidn water and splash got up in the fixtures.

I bet it the flasher relay located next to or on the fuse block.

will check the relay first.

course it might be what 8ball said about the splash in the fixtures. I keep getting caught out in the mud and having to throw mud and water everywhere. Seems like i just get the jeep clean when i find mud.
