The ideal truck gun is the one you find a long deal on, cheap. I like a removable magazine, so ammo can be stored, legally, and the rifle quickly brought into play. Rather than get your heart set on a particular brand/model, just watch for something quality w/ cosmetic issues.

Parmeters... Carbine length 21" max BBL Centerfire caliber iron sights CHEAP! 2-3 MOA
Bolt action repeater. .................With the exception of "CHEAP",,a 300 or 338 RCM chambered in the M77 Hawkeye ideally fills all of your above needs. One darn powerful truck gun which will have some longer range to it as well. Keep a scope handy. If you can dump "CHEAP" for the most part from your criteria,,,go the RCM Hawkeye.

What does high definition have to do with rifles?

M700, ADL, loaded/empty chamber. Pretty sure it's out at the farm in the brown pickup right now.
223 AR next year for sure.

Right now my truck gun is a Marlin 882 .22 mag. in case I see a chuck or snapping turtle that needs killin' on my way home from work. Come fall my truck gun will change to a Stevens 200 .223 in case I see a deer that needs killin' on my way home from work.

I put together a K98 reciever and a surplus 8x57 barrel with military sights. I did cut the barrel down to 21 inches. It shoots surplus ammo when I can find it and factory ammo when I buy it. I really want to put some kind of scope on it but I need the bolt bent and drilled and tapped. I'm too cheap to have it done. kwg

My truck rifle is an old Montgomery Wards bolt action '06. Can't beat a win model 70 with iron sights for $175 from a garage sale

Hey, see if you can find one of the Enfield 2A rifles on Gunbroker. I had one of those once and have forever regretted letting that one go.
