Hello all, I've found myself waiting on a new 300 Savage Remington 700. I've never loaded for the savage, so therefore I need brass. Anyone here using Hornady brass? Even if not specifically in the 300 Savage. What has been your experience with it?
Thanks for your help, Rick

I bought some 257WM but am just getting around to shooting it today on the first reload. But brass was in spec which I would expect anyway, and case mouths were not dented up. I know that was not much help.

Thanks, Bob Too many calibers and not enough time for the working man to hunt with them all.

6.5 Creedmoor no problems cases have 10 loads on them. Some very hot loads have been fired haven't seen any primer pockets loosen. Primer flash holes were a little tight for my flash hole deburring tool. Not a complaint just an observation. I will aneal case necks before loading again.

It is good quality in terms of hunting spec tolerances and ruggedness; can't say if it is up to par for some of the low tolerance expectations people have for it. I've used it quite a bit in magnum revolver cartridges and it hangs in there as well as any, better than some.

Chamber the first few rounds you roll. Had to trim and chamfer some new .300 H&H Hornady brass to fit tight 721 chamber...

Thanks all for the responses. I'm not expecting Lapua quality, but thinking it might be a bit better than Winchester/Remington. I'm thinking on the 700 platform with good brass I probably could load almost to 308 Winchester levels, but I'm thinking I will load to 30-30 +P or 307 levels. I'm looking forward to lowered recoil than my 308's, and do have the 308's and '06's if I need more from 30 cal. Any other responses/experiences welcome. Thanks, Rick

The Hornady brass I've used was very consistent in weight and neck thickness compared to Win/Rem. It was a lot like Federal brass but I never experienced enlarged primer pockets like some say can happen to Fed. brass.

Hornady has the best brass I've ever used in the .450 Marlin!

I have heard that Hornady brass is made by Winchester. I believe the Frontier brass was as it was spot on in weight with WW.

I have a bunch of old Frontier brass and I couldn't begin to tell you how many times it's been reloaded. Good stuff!

I have heard that Hornady brass is made by Winchester. The new Hornady brass is definately NOT Win brass. Different weights, hardness, and even the primer pocket is different. Hornady brass has an extra small ridge stepping down into the primer pocket.

FWIW I got some of the earlier 300 wby hornady brass. It was excellent in consistancy and loaded rounds in virgin brass had really excellently low runnout. But, primer pockets went to pot real quick. That said I still liked the brass. I have picked up a bunch more for a friends 300 wby but haven't worked with it yet. Not sure if the primer pockets will be tougher but like I said...it was pretty weak in the lots I picked up about 10 yrs ago.

I have Hornady brass for my 375R and 444M. So far, the brass is proving very stout. However, ensure you prep the case mouth as both calibers had a slight "rim" on the case mouth requiring chamfering.

I have heard that Hornady brass is made by Winchester. I've personally seen the entire brass manufacturing line at Hornady. Their brass is made right there in NE.
