I'd run a Whelen, of the two options mentioned. I prefer a long action for a hard use rifle, as they feed easier and are easier to see to get cartridges in and out.

You are, of course, right. I should have inserted "American" in there since that is what I meant. If we include the "across the pond" cartridges, then I suppose the Winchester and the Newton barely rank at all since there were a bunch of obscure British 35's (360 Nitro, 400/360, 360. nitro No.2 etc.) The thing that makes the Newtons fascinating, to me anyway, is that they are thoroughly modern in design with relatively sharp shoulders and less body taper than most of the British offerings. On top of that, they are American. GD

I am NOT anti Short Actions, they just don't blow my skirt up.
I like long actions BECAUSE the cartridges HOLD MORE.

HOWEVER..You are absolutely RIGHT. It IS EASIER to get a shell IN or OUT of a L A than a S A. That includes cleaning utensils.. + 5.

Neither, I chose a 9.3x62. It's older, 1906.

I already have a Whelen (and a .358 Winchester), so I would be torn between a .358 WSM or a Norma.

.35 Whelen; it's a pretty darned good hammer, not everyone in camp will have one, they're cheaper to feed, and they don't knock the snot out of you.

Between the 2 I'd go with the 35 Whelen but I could pick anything old it would probably be the 375 H&H.

i'd go with the .35 whelen. then i could spend the rest of my hypothetical money on another rifle, instead of re-inventing another wheel.

Easy question. I have a Whelen, I don't have a WSM. Beyond that, there's classic status vs. whatever the WSM has, and I can get brass for the Whelen anywhere if I'm willing to neck up. Might not be able to say the same about the WSM in a few years.

I wouldn't have either. I'd consider the 350 Remington Magnum though.

I'd be willing to bet that there is enough .300 Wizzums out there that brass availability will not be a problem down the road....

Whelen, but on the way I stopped at .358 Win and just couldn't get started again.

I'm curious regarding the discussion of magazine capacity. How many of the 35 whelen shooters have had cases where they couldn't get the job done with 3 rounds, and 5 rounds was the answer to the problem?

The good thing about 35 caliber rifle discussions is there are no wrong answers, just personal preferences.
