Speaking of old vs new, who of you here still use the 6 MM Remington and the 222 Remington as opposed to the newer 22 and 24 calibers?
Me, I like the Oldies! Not a writer, but I believe my 219 Donaldson Wasp predates both. Mark

I still have 3 222's in my safe. 2 more than the 223's and 221's that are in there.

I have a Tikka HB .222. Before I bought it I planned on getting a .223 but this was all they had and the price was right. Since I had both .222 & .223 dies and brass it wasn't a hard decision to make.
There is also a Reminton 40X in the safe in 6mm Remington. Originally the rifle was chambered in .243 but I decided to try the 6mm instead when it was rebarreled. To date the 6mm seems fractionally less accurate.

So the 243 is even older. Steely - I'm NOT taking the bait. We'll see IF you're smart enough to figure it out..

The second rifle I ever bought (1969)is a M77 Ruger tang safety in 6 mm Rem. I bought it about 2 days after they hit town and have killed a lot of deer and coyotes with it. Somehow it is still in great shape after lots of truck travel. A rifle I won't get rid of.

I've had 2 Ruger #1's - one a 4 digt .222, and a Liberty 6mm. Both shot extremely well. Both were sold to buy houses, or some such foolishness, I forget.
One of these days I'd like to get a Cooper in .221 Fireball, as JB suggested folks rave about their accuracy and efficiency.

have a sweet 6mm Remington in a Ruger Mark II...... i like the rifle a lot, but have not yet figured out a sweet heart load for it. What do you want the load to do? Varmint? Deer? Combo? If I/we knew what you'd like to load for, we might be able to help. My load for the 6 MM is IMR 4064 powder, CCI BR2 primers and the Sierra 85 gr BTHP Gameking bullet. The guys at Sierra tell me that is a good all around load for both varmints and whitetail, just don't hit them in the shoulder bone.

It's not a 6mm or 222 but if you like oldies I thought you might enjoy seeing what I stumbled across the other day. It's a near mint first year production Rem 700 Varmiter 243 with a Weaver V9 , , That is one sweet looking rifle even if it's not a 6 MM or 222.
