Shoot straight, shoot often, but by all means, use enough gun!

Aside from it being a Bushmaster, I've really no idea if the caliber is any good from personal experience.
What I've heard, and a quick google check seems to support, is that the .458 SOCOM has much more support in the realm of reloading and ammo manufacturers. It's more expensive though.
Probably not what you wanted in a response, but that's all I got for now.
I'm looking at a larger caliber AR and I'm leaning toward the .300 AAC. I looked at the .450 and the .458 and it seems to be expensive to get into, expensive to feed, and the .450 is a Bushmaster so it was out from the start.
Unless you're totally bent on a larger caliber, take a look at the .300 AAC. Also called the .300 Blackout.

when i started looking for a thumper on the ar15 platform i looked at the 450 bushmaster, the 50 beawolf and the 458 socom. after all my reasearch i found that all three are viable as long as you realize the brass is expensive but it can be had. any critter hit with any of them will not know the real difference of what it got hit with. i didn't have a 50 cal pistol at the time so it was another diameter bullet to stock. i didn't have a 45 colt so i didn't keep .452 diameter bullets which is the diameter for the .450 bushmaster. i do have a 45-70 and the socom shoots the same 350-400 grain bullets, so that is the one i went with.

I see that both Hornady and Remington offer factory ammo for the 450 Bushmaster, as well as brass for reloading. Not aware of any major ammo maker that loads for the Socom.

Is the 450 Bushmaster gas operated or blow back? I always been interested in them. Since I cast my own boolits- I thought it would be a great round to cast for if it were blow back.
