2 questions. What type of hangers are people using for big mounts like should eland and buffalo? I used nails the last time with mixed results. Want something better in my new house.
In the last house, the mounts were on the wall for 5-6 years and the paint really darkened behind the mounts and were hard to paint over when the room was repainted, took 2 coats to cover it. Anybody putting something like felt behind the mount to help with this?

For large stuff like Eland and Buffalo, I use only lag bolts fastened into the wall studs. Never had a problem with darkened paint.

When Anthony hung my buffalo mount he just put a 4" long, 3/8" lag bolt into the 4"x6" in my wall.

3/8" x 4" hex head lag screws are your friend. Find the stud, drill the hole at a slight down angle and you should be good.

At my office, with steel studs and sheet rock, we had to put a bolt thru the wall with a large, carriage washer and nut on the other wall. Doesn't look that bad. I hung a clock over the bolt and nut in the other room.

Hung 5 new trophies today with the "find a stud, drill hole & stainless 1.5" #10 wood screw. Bet I could hang from them...

Dont rule out the plasma tv hangers. I put one behind an elk and it worked like a charm.
