I am looking at NEI's .358-200GC #161B. Anybody have any thoughts or experiences to share? Second choice is SAECO #356 a 200gr FPGC.

I've had great results with the RCBS 35-200 FN GC. Never tried the others.

I have heard the SAECO was a good one but, haven't had a report on the NEI although it was top quality when Walt was alive.
I've used the RCBS 35-200 FN since the late '70's but, in my .358 Winchester. It has always performed good for me!
You can also go to" mountainmolds.com "and custom design you own with their program for only slightly more than buying one off the shelf. I have one that casts a beautiful 225 grain FNGC designed for my rifle. -Joe

New here guys, but I heard now correct me if I'm wrong, but over at Beartooth Bullets Marshall stated for the .35 Remingtons the .359 dia cast bullets shoot the best in these 336 micro groove barrels.

Well neither of my 35's are micro-grooved and I have only shot GC cast in them. That being said, from what I have read normally .002" over groove dia. shoot best in Micro groove barrels. I can't say for sure since none of my Marlins have it.

NEI is claiming +.002" (with .358" being std) out of the mould with WW. I can size/lube to .359" or .360" while installing a gas check.....Especially attractive as my Lyman handles are supposed to fit!

JB,
The throat of the chamber should be measured to really know how to size your bullet. The bullet should not be over .001" smaller than throat diameter. The bore should also be slugged, to see if any tight spots are present, in order to remove them. That's the correct way but, I have in the past, slugged the bore and sized my bullets .002" over and got good results.
Micro-Groove barrels have, in the past, been oversized which contributed to the misconception that they wouldn't handle lead alloy bullets. Whenever a bullet is undersized .001" to .002", accuracy is nill at best and non-existant at worst. I have a .30-30 micro-groove that only measures .307" and handles .309" sized bullets fine, producing groups at 100 yards in the 2" range. HTH

I slugged the barrel on this gun a couple years ago while chasing a propensity it had for shooting a shotgun type pattern at 100 yards after three or so shots. I still have that lead slug somewhere....
Turned out that the barrel had a tight spot in it under the rear sight dovetail and jacket fouled horribly at that spot. Marlin had already un-trigger jobbed one of my rifles so I did not send this one back. Copious amounts of JB and lots of stroking as well as shooting and cleaning later and the spot seems to be gone but accuracy is still so-so. The bore still copper fouls a in relativley short number of shots. Just this week I took the barrel out and found a bad miss-match where the barrel tightens against the reciever. That is now fixed. I also addressed some issues with the extracter and magazine tube. Hopefully by the time my mould arrives it'll be ready to shoot some good groups.

I guess I should slug the throat as a seperate operation and compare it to the bore diameter. Kinda reminds me of what I do to revolvers to shoot lead in them. As long as bullet size is either .001" to .002" over bore dimension there shouldn't be a problem assuming the case neck has room to expand and release the bullet.

Scott, go to the Beartooth Bullets site and read about Marshall Stanton's process for firelapping a barrel. His book is only a few dollars and his process helped me solve a tight spot problem like yours. Get his firelapping bullets too. Ward

Think I will do just that Ward. I re-slugged the barrel and found that while a tight patch doesn't show it, slugging does! My tight spot is still there.
