While looking for a .25-06 I came across CDNN's catalog with several MKVs at excellent prices. I am looking seriously at a Synthetic matte blue .25-06 for $499 or a Stainless .280 for $549. The add says the box is marked 2nd and the gun is perfect. I will call them tomorrow to find out what makes them a "2nd". They also have a Fibermark .25-06 with a hand-laid stock for $599 but I don't know if the stock is worth $100 more. Any opinions? Should I just skip 'em and go with a Vanguard .257 Wby Mag?

There are just too many guns and not enough money to buy 'em all. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I had a Mk V Stainless in .280 for about five years and I loved it. I would still have it but had an opportunity to trade straight across for a Mk V in .375 H&H. I have two other .280s (one a .280 AI) and I am going to Namibia in the late summer, so the trade made sense. I took a couple of pronghorns, two mule deer and a few Coues whitetails with the Wby .280 and found no faults with it. IMO, either price is a good one--I would opt for the Fibremark as I kept thinking that I should put a better stock on the one that I had...

Chaz,
Did you get the Tikka .25-06? I am still trying to decide but I think I have it narrowed down to a Tikka or Wby.

I have two mark V synthetics, call me boring. I have a 270 winchester and a 30-06. Other than the recoil they are identical. The 30-06 and the 270 will shoot 3 165 grain power points or 3 130 grain powerpoints into a quarter or better at 100 yards. Many groups are covered by a nickle. I love the guns, short throw, light, accurate, holds 5 rounds, long barrel to keep the noise away from my face. JimmyP

I agree with JimmyP - I have 4 of the small MKV's, a .223, .240 wby, .280 and '06, Three in accumark flavor, one in SuperVarmintmaster flavor. I paid quite a bit more than you mention, so I'd go for the Fibermark, personally. All of my rifles shoot and handle great.

days ago, short barreled police rifle, nice solid rifle, price
was 1200 with a tasco 10-40 scope.

A few years ago I ordered a Fibermark in .243. The stock upgrade is well worth it. Very accurate rifle. I mounted a 4.75 Weaver Grand Slam and I'm quite pleased with this combination. Have fun..........Essex

Ordered it this morning and hopefully it will make it Friday or saturday. I am thinking about putting a Nikon Monarch 3x9 in Leupold dual dovetail mounts on it.
