I hope this is the right place to get some answers.

I have a NcSTAR 3-9x42 Rangefinder scope on the AR. I know they are cheap junk & so on so lets skip that part.

The issue is that it will zoom from 3.5 to 6 easily by hand. If i turn it extremly hard it will turn to 3. No matter how hard i spin the other way , it will not go past 6. I removed the eye piece and took a peek inside & knew i needed to put it back on before i really screwed it up.

Should I grab some pliers & force it? Do any of you guys know what could be making it bind?

Thanks in advance

It's well known that ncstars sometimes need tweaking from the factory. If you can strike it on the ocular with a 16 ounce ball peen hammer with approximately .452 newton meters/sec force this will fix your problem.

Thanks Jimmyp. So much for leaving the "pos" part out!

I finally got a tech guy on the phone from NCSTAR. He's said crank it with pliers if i wanted, send it in if i mess it up worse. He told me gouge marks from pliers would not void the warranty. So thats what i did. After 3 or 4 twists with the pliers it freed up. I adjusted the dial and reset the screw. GOOD TO GO!

Awesome customer service!!! whistle

I can't understand why anyone would trust something like this even on a range toy. Ammo is expensive and hoping you hit the target or the scope doesn't screw up some other way doesn't make sense. Trash the POS and learn the irons until you can afford something better.

They sell em everyday, that's the beauty of a flat top, you have choices...

What gun do you have or more importantly, which gas block do you have and I'll try to help you find a good set of sights.

I've been guilty and will be again cause I just don't see handicapping myself and spending money on something that might work.

Let me look at the oracle and see what you can use, if you're interested.

Take the thing off and put on a shelf in the shop as a good reminder. Save your money and bump up a notch. You'll be both time and money ahead. You don't need to go to the top price , just up.

per others responses you would be better served with a decent set of iron sites. My apologies per my ball peen hammer comment.

No harm done. I just needed a little advise since ive never seen the internals of any scope . I was just trying to lean this post towards advise and not so much about my junky scope. I hope to bolt up this used, $50 , POS this week and take some shots. If it doesn't shoot half a$$ true, ill pull it & use it as a target when I can upgrade my optics to something better

put the windage and elevation dials back to the middle of their adjustment and see if that corrects the problem. most people sight in at the high power and get the erector tube so far off center that the power ring won't move through its full travel. of course the converse to that is the scope won't sight in the way its mounted then if that is your problem.

Not to harp on it but once you see the inside of a scope, it's seal if any is gone and moisture will render it useless eventually. Just something to remember in the future.

FWIW, I had a simmons scope once on a 22lr and sent it in for repair twice. The third time I sent it in it was after I beat it to pieces with a hammer. The inside of a scope no longer intrigues me... And no, they didn't warranty it, probably cause I told em to keep the POS. That was years and years ago and I still smile when I think about it.
