I'm trying to decide what cartridge would be best for this situation. Here is what I am looking for. For now, light weight compact walk around gun for deer and hogs. Down the road 5-10 years, a deer hunting gun for the kids. I want to stay with the ar-15 platform (I've got an extra lower)and use a light weight 16" barrel(18" at the most).
Choices up to this point.
5.56 shooting 64gr and up. I'm ok with this, but I've got 2 of them already and 5.56 doesn't leave much room for error with new shooters.
6x45 Pros-- I have lots of 6mm bullets, uses standard mags and bcg Cons-- Is anything gained out of 16" barrel over a 5.56?
6.5x45 Pros-- I have lots of 6.5mm bullets, uses standard mags and bcg Cons-- Cost of upper vs Grendel or SPC
6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, 300 Blackout Pros--More choices for components and uppers Cons--Different mags, which one performs best out of a 16" barrel? Is recoil going to be a problem for young shooters?
Is there a correct answer to this problem?

Also, I kind of feel like I may spend $1000+ to get 30-30 or 7.62x39 performance.

Especially if it is a legal hunting caliber where you reside. Here the .223 is not.

Model one sales in x39... nephew has one... its a solid MOA upper, 125 nosler ballistic tips have killed a lot of stuff out of it.... including a big boar I shot and a yote I shot at something over 500 yards...
Won't ocst you 1000, and you probably don't need anything more accurate.
Me personally, ain't much I wouldn't take on with a 223 if its what I had on hand.
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....
