Any of you have experience with Henry Arms rifles? I've always had a soft spot for lever action and would like to get something that I could use for both big game and deer.
I see they have a new .45-70. I'm contemplating a float hunt to Alaska and wondered if that would be appropriate.
Any thoughts on quality and accuracy would be appreciated.
Thx.

Don't go there, you will eventually be unhappy and regret your decision. There are much better choices that will meet your needs. Marlin makes levers in 45-70 and 450 Marlin. The 450 Marlin is a super cartridge with much power. A guide gun with improved sights will meet your needs.
Beware of thieves, scammers and dishonest members on the "Fire" classifieds. Ya there is a thief here too. Whatever!!
They're all around the CampFire and everywhere.

The 450 Marlin may be a super cartridge, but Marlin doesn't chamber anything in the 450 or the 444 anymore. They have cut back to just the 45-70 in a big bore.
The Marlin company, under new ownership (Cerberus or Remington, depending on how you slice it) has quality control issues right now and has trouble putting out a good product. Any new purchase should be checked out thoroughly before laying down the money. The factory move to NY from CT left most of the expertise unemployed and Remington is learning that a lever action may be harder to assemble than a bolt action. Until Marlin/Remington gets their act together, I'd strongly suggest taking a good look at Henry if you want new. An older Marlin off the used rack would be my first choice though.

My dad just bought a Henry in 44 mag. It shoots fantastic groups and seems to be a well built rifle with nice wood. YMMV

I would like to see one, in the picture it looks like a 1895 ripoff and says it already has XS sights.

I have a Guide Gun in 45-70 and think it is quite a bit more rifle than a Henry. Do have a couple of Henry 22's though and have had zero problems with them.

I have Henrys and Marlins. Fit and finish on my henry is second to NONE! Buy what fits your needs (and wallet) and never look back.
