Those of you using TAC in the 308, please let me in on your favorite combinations. I'm particularly interested in 150 and 165/168 grain loads assembled in Lapua brass, but any good combination would be welcome.

You might want to direct this to Mule Deer (John Barsness) he claims using TAC in any cartridge will keep you from ever needing to clean your barrel (magical copper cleaning properties) if combined with ultra bore coat or any thing else he is paid to push.
been tinkering with the 8208XBR myself and yes Lapua brass.

I load 45.5gr of TAC with a WLRM primer under a 150gr Nosler Partition Gold and get sub-MOA groups From a Tikka T3 Lite and 2 Rem 788s. Give it a try.

I'm sure you've seen the one I've posted but it's with a 130gr TTSX.

And it really SHOOTS! Tiny groups are the norm from what I have seen at the range.

With WW brass, 46 grs. works really well. But with Federal brass, anything over 44 grs. is too warm with 150 gr. bullets. With 168 Hdy Match bullets, anything over 41 grs. with Federal brass was too hot in warm weather.
I might add that TAC works alot better than I'd have thought for reduced loads in the 30'06 and for light bullet loads in the .280. E

I like TAC for 5.56...I wonder how it would do in my .260 with the lighter bullets, maybe 100s and lighter? It sure burns clean in the AR-15.

I ran some 150 PT Golds, 150 Solid Bases and some 150 GameKings with 45 grains TAC and Fed. 150's. The PT Gold load was fine, but the other two bullets/loads were a smidge warm for summer.

Sorry, but the loads were in Butterloy.....

This TAC thing has me going. I can't shoot two good groups in a row with it.

You need a Denver Lab scale....

I never really had bad luck with it, but I never had anything great with it, either.

You have an ES with it yet?

Reason for asking, it may want a hotter cap...

No ES, the Oehler is down. frown

I've tried a few caps: CCI 200 & 250, WLR and F210.

Just a swing; I had better accuracy and lower ES in my 222 Mag loads with the 450. The 308's were just "pour and go" loads and only clocked a few from 2800-2875 in a 22", depending on the pill.

The thing I didn't like about it is it seemed to "cook" more in a hot chamber/hot day than anything else.

Is that the only powder your using in a session? Might be my imagination, but ball powders seem to do best mired in their own filth...

That could well be what's biting my ass.

I've shot it by itself, and with other powders that only got involved to make sure I could still shoot. grin

Yeah, I was thinking easier metering than 15 or Varget, data looks great for it; but ended up burning most of it up with fireform loads and AR stuff loaded fairly mild.

I'm gonna play with some CFE-223 this summer.

I've had no problems with TAC being inconsistant.
But, I've always used Winchester WLR's and not CCI 200's with my loads. And I've found the best accuracy at the top of the load range.
In the .308, this can easily vary 2-3 grs. between different makes of cases BTW. On the other hand, it doesn't seem to need 90% plus loading density. E

I just threw together 3 different near max charges behind 125gr Speer TNTs for an upcoming prairie dog shoot. I am way off the lands as the bullet is relatively short but all 3 loads were under .375 at 100 (3 shots). I am stoked. The hottest was the tightest.

How much did you let the rifle cool between groups?

I'm finding TAC doesn't like a hot barrel in my 308 rifles. Three shots go into a knot, four and five get loose vertically. That could be interesting on a prairie dog shoot. These rifles don't do that with other powders either.

TAC is looking all right so far in my 223.
