In the long going battle againsnt my FIL I came up with a great Idea.
My MIL's uncle has a step daughter who is the same age as my FIL (mid 50's) and she has the hots for my FIL.
How bad of Idea would it be to send flowers to her from my FIL? What could backfire? keep in mind my FIL would never do anything wrong involving her, my MIL would find it funny and when she found out who did it she would find it funny too.
The best part is my my MIL's cousin will get blamed.

Yup I'm 2000 miles away go ahead do it. OK your FIL is 50's. your probably in your 30's. Take some advise from an old fart that's pulled similar practical jokes most of which went bad, real bad. Let this one pass.

Your playing with people's feelings, that is not funny, IMHO, practicle jokes are'nt jokes, they are hurtful to someone, on some level. My advice is to pass.

Is it too ambitious or too naive to look for an honest politician? Or simply a useful one?

Not a good idea. You have to think about the gal you're sending the flowers to.
At best, she finds out there not from him. At worst, she finds out that it was a joke at her expense and the whole family knows and are laughing about it. Never execute a practical joke that you may have to apologize for later.

decided to back down on this one,
but I did put an ad on Craigslist giving away free chickens with my FIL's number I figure that is pretty harmless

decided to back down on this one,

Another good one (if someone messes with you) is to go into their house and either take off all the labels on the canned goods or un-screw all the light bulbs in the house "juuust enough" to make them think the power is out or they have something wrong with their electrical. Pain in the azz? Yea. But you really don't hurt anybody's feelings.

Every time I work in a new town that has radio classifieds, I call in a different buds number advertising bird dogs for $20. And I ALWAYS tell them to ask for Bill. There must be 40-50 "bird dog Bill's" around here.

Some "great ideas" are best enjoyed as "what if I'd really done it?" That lets you avoid any real-life back-fire.
One of my greatest such ideas could've gotten a guy killed. D'you think that I'd've enjoyed that? But I still chuckle over the less-lethal probabilities � "what if I'd really done it?"
"Good enough" isn't.
