Well Gents, i will start this off by showing off the rifle i recently got after spending almost two years working for it as i could never afford it on a cash basis...

This is my Remington 700 Varmint Special Composite. its a .223 Remington, and is a bit of an oddball.

According to the little i have been able to find on it, the barrel is a carbon fiber wrapped Krieger. i am not 100% sure on this info, so please take that for what it is... As i understand it, the wrap was done by Christiensen Arms, before they became the overpriced rifles they are today.

These rifles were only made in 1999-2000, so very few of them are out there. They were only chambered in short actions, and only available in .223, 22-250, and .308.

I read the only article on them i could find where the guy test shot one, and as he said, they shoot. he used only factory ammo for whatever reason, but it all shot sub MOA.

Mine, well..... yeah, lets just say it shoots pretty good. i took it out and tested some loads. i just looked in the book, picked my load, and made 15 of each to test.

After firing the test loads, i came to the conclusion that i hated the scope on it, and replaced it.

So, i took it back out to shoot it again. again, just sighting it in, i used some Herters steel cased ammo i had. i took 6 shots to get it where i wanted it, then cleaned it with a wet patch, and three dry ones.

Testing ammo number one, i swore my shooting was off...

Testing ammo number two, i knew it was off...

Anyways... here she is... my new critter slayer....

Check out the pattern on the barrel... SWEET! cool

Now, as i said, i knew my shooting was off. i only hit the target once each time i tested each ammo. i just knew it. then i went to get my target...

This first one was loaded with a 52 grain Speer HP. 26 grains of H335 and a Federal SR match primer.

The second one was loaded with a 60 grain V-Max. 24 grains of H335 and a Federal SR match primer.

All i have to say is that my test loads are keepers, and i shot my personal best groups ever with them. Varmints beware!!! i am coming for you!!!

More pictures later on my barbecue adventures with ribs and tater salad... and maybe some Buffalo Trace grin

I can barely shoot 1.25@ 200 yds. Maybe I need a custom barrel or something.

WOW, never on my best day did I ever shoot a group like that Marty, let alone more than one.

Terry, i never have either. i was blown away by this. this is a factory rifle. the only thing done to it was a trigger job... i couldnt live with the 6 pound trigger it came with, so now it is more like 2 pounds.

EWY, funny enough, my bench was the top of my car. grin and a Carhartt jacket for bags... shocked

Very good Marty. I remember seeing one of those rifles in a sporting goods store many years ago. That one is a keeper!

Sadly, most that were seen in sporting goods stores stayed there until they went on crazy clearance prices. the original MSRP was $1,900+ on them. the blue book of gun values puts it at $1,225 in 98% condition.

As i understand it, the mounts are Warne QD mounts and rings. the scope is a Centre Point 4-16x40. its a $70 cheapo from Wal-Mart, but it is clear as day, and holds zero. i have two of them. one on a 30-06, and one on the .223.

You should enter it into a local match and see how you do.
