Of the companies that install their own barrels (i.e. Pacnor, Shilen, Shaw, etc.), who do you like best and why? Looking to rebarrel a 35-year-old M700 that when I received had been ridden hard and put up wet, so is a solid 4 MOA gun right now. Planning on factory contour.

I had Douglass do my 338-06 they matched the old barrel contour so it fit the stock perfectly, shoots almost any reasonable load very well.

Of those mentioned I would use Hart Rifle barrels

I like PacNor. Great customer service and their barrels shoot well and are reasonably priced. Also they are close so I could go up there and pound on the desk should something not work out.

So far I haven't had the need to pound desk.

Pacnor has always performed well, Penny is very prompt with updates and their quoted delivery times have always been pretty close. If they say it will 4 weeks that is when it will be ready.

Why would you want to do that?

I do like PacNor barrels. I have been to PacNor and seen it done. I have also spoke with Krieger at length about their methods and they both did it the same way. It's a production show much like they do it at the factory but only one at a time. I firmly believe if you are looking for that last bit of precision you are better of with a precision rifle specialist.

I've had good results with Pacnor. Aren't Krieger barrels cut-rifled?

Probably talking about the way each of them install barrels is the same.
