As per the title, anyone know this gun? I haven't seen one before. Looks like a 600, but with the safety "the right way round".

There's a CZ 527.

I recently read a post on another forum asking about the same model:
http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=450951

without following the link, the general consensus is that the 537 was the model between the 600 series & 550 series...also rare as it was only made for a couple of years.

A friend of mine has one, pristine, in 7x64Brenneke and I am probably going to acquire it in due course. I am a Brno fan of nearly 50 years, currently own 12 rifles made by them and consider these to be about the "best" production sporters ever produced.

I might well put a AHR 3-pos. safety and trigger on this, as I understand it, the CZ-550 units will fit and a good synthetic stock, perhaps one of MPI's "mountain rifle" models or another Micky Edge.

I really wish that CZ had made this model in 9.3x64 Brenneke, as well as the 7mm chambering and such a pair would do about anything I can imagine ever wanting to do.

I had never heard of them either. But they do exist. I am trying to discern if there is any difference between the 537 and the 550. I think the 537 was essentially a 600 with the safety reversed to make you folks happy.

Anybody know if they were a single action length or not? It looks like a slimmer design than the 550, which is why the rifle caught my attention. The 550 has a very big heavy reciever.

Kutenay, why do you rate the 537 over the 550? And does it happen to have the 600 reciever mounted sights?

I think you are right on the money

There is a brief reference here about the 537 and it's chamberings:

brief description of 537 models:

Someone that owns a 537 (he might be a person to look up and ask questions about the rifle)

A couple of 537 auctions:

http://www.gunauction.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=3820561

A recent 537 acquisition with some pictures(via link):
http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=451310

To me the 537 looks like it has the same action as the 550, which is essentially the same action as the BRNO 600 series. the 537 was a transitional rifle and I doubt it's much slimmer or drastically different than the 550.

I am guessing that there was one action length for the 537 as I don't see any magnum chamberings listed or mentioned and the .308 has a detachable magazine. I am also guessing that you wont find that the 537 has the desirable pop up receiver sight since it's a CZ made rifle...you would have search for a BRNO 600 series rifle that had that option.

It's amazing what a few minutes with google can teach you. smile
