As much as I like them, I see sales diminishing.

Agree completely. Remington has cut back on models thay are cahmbering for the RUM line. There is only one model now for the .338 & .375. That is down from the 6 models they originally offered them in. Maybe the 7mm and .300 RUM's will survive but the .338 and .375 are on their way out. Lawdog

Lawdog, Come on, don't sugarcoat it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> The 338 will survive. Steve

BigBoreFan,
I own and shoot all of the Ultras, I even had an extra 7mm Ultra LH rebarreled to a .375 Ultra, all of mine are 700 LSS's. I buy all my brass from a Remington distributor and he has told me in the past to buy a good stock of the .338 and .375 as his sales were very high for the first year and now I am the only one that orders them any more. The good side of that is he still has about 1500 pounds of each of those calibers in new brass. I like to drive up to his warehouse and walk around, it makes me remember how it was when I was little and still belived in Santa Claus. I can walk around in a warehouse the size of a Wal Mart and peer into pallets of new brass just waiting to be loaded. I think it is a safe bet that Remington will make a good supply of all of the Ultra brass, even the SA Ultras for the next ten years, after that it is anyones guess.
Take care!
Marcus.

Most of the RUM that I see around here are in the used gun racks, fired a few times and then sold.

One of my coworkers told me today that he was looking for
a Remington 700 in 375 Ultra with a left handed action, I thought it about for a few minutes, and havent seen any
Ultras for sale used anywhere, but then again I havent been
looking. Who knows he'll probably stumble across one sooner
or later.

I don't think he will find a left handed one in 375 Ultra, they only made the lefties in 7mm, .300 and .338 RUM - these in the BDL and LSS models.

'Course, I'm not a walking catalog so could be wrong, but try to keep up on most things offered to left handers.

The 300 will certainly stay around, the others may be doubtfull. At least you will be able to form cases for the others from the 300.................DJ

Going...Going...Gone.

Those who keep them after firing the first box of shells may like them, the rest will never try that again.

Most distributers are all ready giving them away.

Mark,

Here in Nebraska. I have just seen more in the used racks than in the new racks at a couple of the local stores. We have a lot of deer hunting from tree stands and such and I think the excitement went away with the recoil, cost of ammo and the realization that they didn't need all that for shots at whitetails 150 yards away.

I do see more of the traditional mags, 7mm, .300 Win and so forth and I have seen a couple of 7 STW in the field, but no UM in the field as of yet. I have one hunting buddy who bought a .375 UM and even with a Answer Products brake, it is a absolute brute to shoot.

Makes sense Duckster, I would kind of think a Roberts or a 7/08 would do you just fine there.

Mark,

I sold a bunch of the .300 Ultra when I worked at Sportsman's Warehouse in Missoula. Most of the guys I talked to a month later were either putting a break on it or selling it. I told them when they bought it that it would kick like hell with a plastic stock on it, but everyone is always smarter than the gun guy....LOL.

7 SAUM is done
7 Ultra is almost done
375 Ultra is Almost done

I think the 300 and 338 will hang around for the long range guys.

Buy a 30-06, it will kill anything in the US, and you can find ammo anywhere.

I hear what you're saying I worked behind the counter for 3 years. It's an experience that all gun looney's out to have...

Personally I don't find the 300 RUM to all that caustic but then again I shoot PD's and chucks with a 340. So that need be kept in mind. I gotta believe that for the ave Joe who shoots just a bit they are a bit of a handful.

I prettty much agree with your list of dones and almost dones. Around here I would say the 375 RUM is done and the 300 saum is pretty much a done fish as well. And I gotta believe the super shorts at long for the world either.

As for your last statement about the 06 it says it all and it does it all. I've 2 very good friends that that is about all they use. My one amigo Brad is in his early 40's and my Dad is in his early 70's. Both dudes are pretty darn smart. Now if I could only get smart...

I think the 300 and 7mm rum will. I love my 300 rum. It does seem that there are a lot of them for sale on the used racks. I think a lot of people bought them not realizing what they were getting. The 300,338,378 rums are not for the beginner.

I did not order .300 UM brass because I was going to get it at the area gunshow today. Well, no one had any brass. The guy that always had it in the past said he was having trouble getting a large supply. He had .375UM but he was out of 7mm UM and .300 UM. I just ordered brass from Cabela's. I don't want to make everyone panic, but none of the local gunshops have had .300 Rem UM brass. Lately, I've only found it through mail order catalogs.

I just got 160 new brass today and about 40 once fired brass from a local guy. The fellow told me that the rum brass is getting hard to find. He said its getting to be a problem because he is reloading for about 5 or 6 people with the 300 rum and the 7mm rum right now. The fired brass is real slim due to people holding on to their brass now. Most of the guys I know with the 300 rum are hand loading, would this be the norm for your area. Could this account for low sales on factory ammo?

Everyone I know with a RUM handloads. I've seen a few boxes of factory ammo, but lately no one has brass in stock.
