Has anyone used one of the VR series winches from Warn? The tech I talked to at Warn said they are great for occasional users, like me, but I don't want to buy one of these less expensive Warns and find it doesn't work when I (seldom) need it.

Anyone have any experience with where these VR (Value Rated)winches fail, as compared to their more expensive winches?

I never go cheap when it's something I need to rely on. That's why it surprized me, and I question the validity of, that tech's comment. A new Warn 9.5XP like I have on my truck costs $1,100 (+ or - $100) new, and a Warn VR 8k costs around $500. There's got to be a difference somewhere. Even if it could set for a year or two and then go to work at it's full potential, I have to wonder if its full potential is something it could work at for very long.

Myself, I'll buy a used 9.5XP before I buy a new VR model, but I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of how well these less expensive VRs work when put to the test.

Like the tech said, "They're great for the occasional user...", but what breaks on them, and when?

Yeah, good question.

I've got an 8000 in the basket dealie for use from a receiver hitch. If any interest, I can get you some information on what it is and maybe we could do a deal.

I looked it up: Warn 31875 - Warn X8000i Portable Winches
Winch, Electric X8000I, 8,000lb Pull Rating, Includes 2" Class III Receiver Hitch Cradle, 12ft. Remote, Kit

I'll never use it again ... I'm too busted up to hunt.

Might be a great deal for both of us. Or you might not be interested ... who knows???

I'm thinking $600.

God Bless,

Steve

I just saw this and I thank you for the offer. I'm not looking to buy anything, but am just wondering if anyone knows where in the Warn VR winch line there is a difference that warrants the lower price.

Your offer is a good one. If anyone wants one of these winches, that's a good price for that package.

Thanks.
