I did a hunt at Little Marten Lake in NWT a couple of years after you wrote an article about hunting there..You said your guide was Anthony Ooogak..

Super hunt..Lots of trophy 'bou and and the Inuit guides were a hoot.. My guide was George Konana.. Watched him eat raw caribou liver dipped in stomach contents.. hehehe..

My party booked the whole camp the first week of Sept. in '94 and everybody took big bulls, including several B&C critters..

Fishing was super also..I caught 10 lb. PLUS lakers on my flyrod with streamers in a couple feet of water, and dry fly fishing for 2-3 pound grayling was so good it got boring..

What is the status of NWT central barren gound hunting these days ?

Yeah, I remember Anthony! As a matter of fact, a couple years ago I hunted in Alberta with a moose guide who'd just hunted with Anthony a year or so before at Little Marten.os He even showed me a bunch of photos from his trip, and Anthony looks older. (Don't we all!)

I know caribou hunting is completely shut down in at least part of the NWT, but don't know about all.

Small world, eh Mule Deer ?

A year after my Little Marten Lake hunt, I saw George Konana's picture in National Geographic..It was taken by some pilgrim who spent an entire summer trecking across northern Canada. George was all decked out in his traditional garb, complete with sealskin leggings and mittens, caribou parka and wolf fur hood..

George was a cool and interesting fellow..Comical as hell, too !

He showed me a video on his camcorder of his 9 year old son shooting a ten foot polar bear with a .222. Dropped the critter like a rock with one shot to the base of the skull..
