What type of elk mounts have you seen that are classiest?
I've always been partial to european mounts for elk (skull and antlers, no skin, no hair, etc).
Pics are cool if you have them.

Love my right turn/left turn mounts...never got into bugling mounts. Have a number of european mounts and prefer the onew with the teeth still in. On some european mounts, they saw the teeth off and flatten out the palate area...have one like that and don't like it as well.
You only live once, but...if you do it right, once is enough.

I don't like it when they saw the teeth off of European mounts either. It makes it look like the skull is melting into the plaque.

I love seeing the whole animal, if you have the room, and you're rich.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a hunting license and that's pretty close.

joelkdouglas: My taxidermist calls this pose the "droop" and it's turned a little to one side. It's not an "upright" pose nor is it a "sneak" pose. I think maybe the most traditional pose is the upright but I think this one demonstrates more dignity and realism so I like it the best. Sorry for the poor quality of the photo. KC

I like the shoulder mounts as long as the mouth is closed.

Nice mount KC.
As that position also saves a little room if there is not enough ceiling.
My last year elk will be started sometime this next couple weeks. Hide is done, but I have not picked out a pose/form yet. My last years bull seen me just as the cross-hairs were coming to that spot on his rib-cage. I would like some 'droop' and a slight right!
Clinging to my God, and my guns!

For the shoulder mounts, I'm partial to a hard left or right with the head up a bit. This puts one side or the other of a antler in the front and reduces the overall height. For any elk of substance, one really needs something more than the standard ceiling or the mounts nose is bumping folks in the belt buckle and dominates the room.
Lots of fine mounts in this community live in the garage, because folks don't have a room suitable for display or the Misses won't allow it. I got around that by bringing her mount into the house first. I'm fine with Europeans too with most of the nasal portions and teeth gone. With no mounting boards, mine fit near flush to the wall. I am blessed too with a room carrying a 16 ft ceiling.

A pards pedestal mount sure came out nice. A fake rock and a quakie bush kinda sets it off.....

Regarding the european Mount in the middle of the picture here, is that what some of you mentioned as "missing teeth"? I had previously only seen european mounts with the teeth, I believe. Nice pics! Great bulls and I'm sure great memories of the hunts. Keep em coming if you have them!

That elk looks pissed off. Probably, because it's hanging on a wall.

The mount on the extreme left, I have anothrer one just to the left with the oposite turn so they face each other on the wall. The plaqued antlers on the right is the first elk I killed in about 1966 or so.

If you have the ceiling room, the classic with a slight turn is my favorite...
