Saw a Kimber 8400 Classic in .30-06 at the Macon, GA gun show this weekend. It appeared to have the same weight as the Kimber 8400 WSMs, looked about the same, and (of course) had a longer action for the .30-06 caliber.

I did not buy it, as I am not in the market for a new .30-06, but if Kimber comes out with a .25-06 I'd probably scoop that up. And I'd be willing to bet that Kimber will indeed come out with a few long-action calibers, and they'll likely be good sellers.

Was the price on par with the mag version?

Yeah!! I've been waiting for these for a year. I hope they chamber the .35 Whelen, or beter yet, the .338-06. Either would make a nice companion for the .270 I absolutely must have.

The 25-06 should be available sometime after the shotshow along with a 300 Win Mag.

I have the 30-06 and 270 Kimber LA and they are 7 1/2 lb rifles with 24 inch barrels. So they will be fine for a 300Win. Mag.. Don't look for any "wild" calibers like 35 Whelen or 338-06. They spoke of 25-06, 300WM, 7 Rem. Mag and mayber 338 WM.. Just walnut and blued steel for now.

Probably not. They had them on their website, never made any, them took them off of their website.

However, I'm not too sure how much trust I'd put in their website. I just looked and it said not to expect delivery of the 8400 Montana until late 2003. Um, wasn't that about two years ago? Web programmers aren't all that hard to find, you'd think they could keep the website up to date, or at least not more than one year out of date.

I sure do like that 8400, even if all I've seen so far are the ones in the WSM calibers. The 84 is a bit too dainty, but that 8400 is just right. Someone else posted that it is what the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight should have been and I concur heartily.

Geez, an 8400 in .270 is likely to wake JOC from his grave just to test one.

A left hand 8400 in .270 would be an answer to a prayer. But somehow I think the demi-gods at Kimber aren't listening to the sinistral shooters too much.

It's my understanding they're going to a 13 3/4" LOP... too dang long for this boy. Looks like I'll never own one.

As for left hand rifles, you can always get a Savage . . . . BMT

Okay, Kimber just announced the long action 8400 when...? Not very long ago, right? And now versions in all calibers are already getting to dealers' shelves.

Winchester has catalogued the left hand LT III for ALL of 2005 and even before, and I have yet to hear of a single one being produced, let alone for sale.

Remington announced the left hand CDL's for 2005 and I just started seeing them show up on gunbroker about 6 weeks ago. One (1), that's singular, .300 RUM (of all the calibers I do NOT want) CDL has shown up actually on a dealer's rack here in the City of Trees.

Geez, I wish Kimber made left hand rifles..........

The Kimber website doesn't seem to be very well updated, as you said. In fact, I was wondering if they had a new and different URL that I should be seeking.

By the way, my "dainty" 7mm-08 Kimber 84m seems to be "just right" for putting whitetail venison in my freezer. :-)

Kimber is doing it right... announcing ONLY when they actually have some models to ship out.

I remember when Taurus was bringing out their titanium model 85 revolvers. They said that it would come out in .32 H&R Magnum as well as other calibers.... well, I am *still* waiting for that caliber to come out. Actually , I gave up and bought the .38 special caliber. So that's my ultimate example of something advertised and late-delivered or not-delivered.

Not dissing the Model 84 - just a purely subjective "feel". Pistol grip is a bit small for me, overall feel is dainty. The 8400 just fits my mitts better.

Also some good old fashioned sour grapes and prejudice thrown in.

Now if Kimber would give us southpaws a nice left hand Model 84 in 7mm-08 I'm quite sure I'd find it to be "just right".

25-06!!! Wohoo!

This is the gun I have been waiting for, for about 4 years. A nice light 25-06 with a 24 inch barrel, that is not made in a custom shop.
