Before, during, and after other whiz bang cartridges were produced, the deuce accounted for thousands Of coyotes, I'm sure. Id personally feel good about any yote within 300 yds...

yes.
Many guys will say 200.
Some will say 300.
My longest was about 430, but I'll admit I was pushing it, and it was kind of a lay up. Wide open field, no wind, and I knew the range.

Heck I started typing that before you posted.
The only reason I considered shooting is the Ballistic plex still had lines below 300 yards....

With my first ballistic plex, on its first day out, I winged a hail mary shot at a gopher at 467 lasered yards...in a 28mph wind. You guessed it...we were both equally surprised when the bullet landed on him! But only one of us died.....

I used a 222 for quite a while and truthfully don't know much difference tween it and the 223 except the most accurate gun I ever had was a 222...
I would put the same limit I put on the 223 at 250 yards or so but I'm a caller and rarely have to shoot that far.

My favorite walking around varmint rifle and coyote calling rifle is my Sako Riihimaki in 222. 50gr TNT's just moiderize 'em. I have not tried any real long shots with it as the TNT's are not sleek or long range type bulets but at normal coyote killin ranges they are VERY deadly. Mostly bangflops.

I will guarentee that if you are skillful enough to hit a coyote at 1000 yds with a .222 that it will not bounce off but will penatrate the head, heart or lungs and kill it. Probably not DOTS, but you will kill it. You hit it in the gut at that range, you may kill it if blood poisioning sets in, but you may also make a handicapped cattle killer out of it. So I don't recommend extreme ranges with any size gun where you have very little chance of cleaning up your messes or misses.
Unless your into range finders and adjustable scopes that cost three or four times what your rifle cost, a .222 is really easy to sight and shoot out to about 300 yds. Beyound that it takes some practice. Just my humble thoughts on your question.
A young lady was killed here not to many years back when a bullet fell out of the sky from some idiot firing in the air, probably 1000's of yards away. Just more proof that until a bullet is motionless, it is deadly.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost....

Love the .222s.
As a kid in the 70s I watched my dad routinely whack foxes with it from well past 300 yards. He had a Remington 600 and some sort of Savage in the caliber. Both were tack drivers and many a fox fell to those guns, a few hundred I'd wager.
It gives up very little to the 223 in performance.

The 222 will takes coyotes as well as any small case round and is one of my favorite round . Most coyotes called in are under 100 yards but i consider the 222 a 250 yard round and better if you know you rifle and load. I would just as soon have the 222 in my hand when calling as the 22-250. 222 does it best work with 50 to 55 gr varmint bullets like the Hornady SX SP or Vmax
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

I've had several 222's over the years and taken a lot of coyotes with them. Most have been called and under 100 yards but have nailed a few on the backside of 300 yards. I would have to agree with bea175 that it's a 250 yard coyote cartridge.

I used a 222 for quite a while and truthfully don't know much difference tween it and the 223 except the most accurate gun I ever had was a 222... The most accurate center fire I have is also a triple deuce. I bought it in the early 90's when Remington first came out with the Model 700 VLS with the laminated wood stock and heavy barrel. It shoots little bitty groups too...100% factory original...it's had nothing extra done to it. I wouldn't take for it.
Every day on this side of the ground is a win.

I've got a Sako Rhiimaki .222 with a 22" bbl. and my Uncle has a H & R Ultra Wildcat .223 with 20" bbl. When you shoot them side by side through the chronograph there's less than 50 fps difference.
