JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

I gave them to "free-miner" and he seems to have given some info. on them to others. Sorry for the confusion, should have been clearer in my comments....old age, what can I say.....

I do have about a half dozen of these left, but, they are goingon several of my P-64 Mod. 70s, as I replace the current mounts with modded Talleys.

Thanks Ray!

Dropped my 308 Kimber MT off at Gentry's today to get open sights installed... a little present to myself.

Thats gonna look good Brad. Let us see how it looks when you get it back. Something I could use some practice at is actually using open sights. I have an ugly Romanian trainer 22 lr that I have been practicing with open sighted. I have been hitting better than I thought I would.

I have seven rifles with XS ghost ring sights on them, four marlin levers, 2 30-30's, a 357 Mag and a 35 Rem., a Ruger 77/357, Ruger 77/22 and a Marlin Camp 9. So I get plenty of practice shooting them with these 63 year old eyes. I took a nice pig on the run last year with one of the 30-30's. For the first 15 years of my hunting life I hunted strictly with iron sights, mostly with a Remington Mohawk 600 carbine in 308, with a Williams receiver sight. The irons on this M70 are really just for back-up, to finish out a hunt if the unthinkable happens to my Leupold. But if it does, I should have the skills to shoot medium game up to maybe 150 yards.

bsa, the conetrols turned out too low. I had to run them off center to keep from rubbing the bolt handle. Ended up with them on the 06 Lightweight.

?????

A couple fellows PM'd me for info on where I got them after I posted a picture on another thread.

I directed them to eBay or auction sites where you can usually find a complete Redfield Jr base that you can rob the sight from.

I have no idea about this secret source of yours that you think I divulged.

rj308 that came out really well. I have a similar rifle that has been my go-to for a number of years.

I'm going to steal your idea on cutting the rails back on the bases, as having to wiggle and fiddle Zee rings off a weaver base is something that has annoyed me about them.

I googled 'hunting Carpathians' and was surprised at the varied opportunities. Will resident status give you free roam and tag opportunities like we enjoy here?

To get your firearms license over there, you need a permanent resident permit, which I will be getting in October. As a permanent resident, as long as it is not private property, you can pretty much hunt where seasons are open, sometimes having to buy game tags and area permits, similar to our state and Federal Wildlife Management Area permits. This is the way I understand it. When I go over in October, I will be meeting with a gentleman to discuss in length the hunting regs and opportunities. His handle on the Europe hunting forum here is "Born Wild".
I was surprised how easy it was to drill and tap the 2-56 holes for the peep sight. I used all three taps, pilot, plug and bottom and didn't have any problems. Ofcourse a good drill press and drill press vise really helped. Thanks again for the info on the peep sights.

There is a lot of great info on this forum and it gave me some great ideas, including getting a McMillan stock. Most people here share their knowledge and I appreciate that.
