In a classic case of "child psychology" my son told me, "Dad, we need to go fishing so Mom and Grace can have some girl time together." How could I say no to a request like that? Our morning at a farm pond resulted in a nice mess of crappie for a fish fry and this nice bass that went back in the pond. (Yes, he hooked and fought the bass by himself!) He's pretty proud to be helping to put meat on the table. Won't be long before he's pulling the trigger to do that, too.

That is a very nice catch! Did he also catch the big fish by himself? By the time he's like 20, he will surely be a very good one at fishing and perhaps hunting as well.

Thanks for the all of the nice compliments...I will be sure to pass them along to my son. He loves to fish, that's for sure! And yes, I have more fun watching him than if I were catching them myself.

TScott27 - Yes, he hooked and fought the bass by himself. He was fishing with a RoadRunner under the bobber. The only thing I did was land the fish when he got it to shore and then quickly snap pictures before releasing it. He wasn't very happy about letting it go, but understood why we should. It was big enough to qualify for a Master Angler Award, so I am submitting that and will frame the certificate with his picture.

Tried the pond last weekend, but the hot weather has shut the fish off. Came home with sand hill plums and made jam instead, so that was a nice little bonus!

He says it doesn't matter if I don't get to catch as many... because I get to clean them all!
