I had a scope that the front bell was contacting the barrel of my .308 remy tatical. I move the scope forward and obtained the clearance I needed and tighten the rings. (Here comes the weird part) To re-sight the scope I done the usual pull the bolt and bore sight. I am usualy very good at this. New scope to hitting the bullseye in 3 to 4 rounds is normal....Not this time! I ended up useing a LARGE sheet of paper and found I was about 18" low and to the right. I finaly got her back on target and proceeded to shoot a .252 5 shot group. Just for kicks I pulled the bolt again, peered down the bore at a small object 100 yards away and then threw my scope to find the cross hairs were again 18" low and to the left! I shot again and the rifle is still on target. When I got home I done the same to all my other rifles and the bore and cross hairs are dead on. What would cause this? has anyone else ever seen this? I have no idea how i can have this sight picture and still be zeroed.

Can't really tell for sure, but something (mounts, receiver, barrel attachment) is out of whack and your scope's adjusments are enough to make up for it...
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

Sounds like you bent the scope tube when you had it mounted contacting the barrel. And as said above the internal adjustments are enough to correct it.

Yep! Looked at it late last night with my glass's so I could see a little better. (did'nt have them with me earlier) an you are right. Rings were tight when I installed the scope and had clearance between the scope and barrel. The rings were still tight when I broke them loose. I observed a gash in the side of the scope and when I removed the scope from the rings it became obvious. She is bent! The shinny marks on the front of the bell tells me that it possible that it probaly fell off the rest (with some help) and was put back on the bags befor I returned from the score shack. That would explain the black sharpie paint on the dings on my new scope. New scope on the way!

Now it's a periscope.......
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA
