I'm loking at picking up a Savage Model 99 in 300 Savage. I've wanted a Model 99 for years.

Any of you guys or gals hunt with the Model 99 in 300 Savage? What do you think? What loads are you using? What game have you taken? How's it work on elk?

I'd really like to get one in .250-3000, but everyone that I've seen has been more than I was willing to spend. The 300 Savage might also be a better all around caliber than the .250-3000. Maybe I'll ge one some day just 'cause.

Thanks for any info.

Try heading over to the Savage Collector's forum and posting this.. You'll find more information than you probably bargained for<grin>.

If you go to the Savage collectors forum, you'll get more data thrown at you than the average non-Savage nut can handle. BTW, saying anything bad about the 250-3000 is not allowed on 24HCF.

Yes, do visit the Savage Collectors forum. But understand, there is no effective 12 Step Program! You've been warned. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I bought one last year from a member on this board, for my Grandson. A modest load of powder, behind the Hornady 125gr interlock, shoots an inch or better with very mild recoil. Grandson took his first deer with it last year.
