Are there any opinions on these yet, I am considering a f-150 4x4 eco-boost and wondering how they are in the real world and not a Ford comercial.

A guy I know from another forum bought one last fall. I questioned him on it back in Mar. and below is his reply: The power is still unbelivable. I have not towed with it yet though, no boat to tow yet but should get a good idea in April when I go and pick it up in the cities. Mileage......you have to want to get good mileage. You have to play with it going down the road using the "green bar" if you want to get really good mileage 20-21. If you set the cruise at 75 and forgot about it, you will not get that good of mileage, around 16-17. Wind effects the numbers HUGE!!!! If it's balls out windy then just expect to get 16.
Truck all in all is awesome though I am not too convinced on the mileage aspect, It can do 20+ but its not like a car where you set it and forget it, you got to work to get those numbers.

Truthfully, that is the same numbers I got with my '11 F-150, including the 17 mpg at 75 MPH.
Camp is where you make it.

I think they are a very good truck but prefer the 5.0 in the F150. My main concern was the long term durability of this design.

We have a 2011 F150 with the 5 litre, very pleased with it. Lots of power and decent mileage. (right about 20 (based on your gallon) on the highway, empty, but I try to keep my foot out of it).

That applies to any vehicle. You can improve the mileage of about anything you drive if you drive it for mileage. For example, try passing a car going up hill if you want to see the mileage drop. About everyone I know will push the pedal going uphill and that sucks gas like crazy.

I wanted one of those, but ended up with a Silvarado Z-71. The dealer is a friend and I didn't like the Ford dealer. My truck gives 17.5 mpg, general driving, mostly in town, no towing. Doesn't look like I gave up a lot going with the Chevy. My buddies were saying I should be driving an F-150. I told them that if I drove an F-150, it would go to my head. I needed to drive the Chevy to stay humble... DF

This is pretty much my experience. Awesome power and acceleration though! Quiet power, a stealth fighter! I've had an FX4 Supercrew Ecoboost since April 29, 2011. Love the truck and the drivetrain. Fit and finish is 96% like a Toyota. Too bad Toyota doesn't offer the features this Ford has. My friend liked mine so much, he bought pretty much the same rig! OP asked about the Ecoboost. Don't know why Chevy deviants are posting about their inferior rides (no legroom in the backseat for one thing).

Thanks for the input, not sure which way I will go, Might just stay with my 2000 f-250 SD 7.3 and my Tacoma 4x4, both seem popular around here, also, both long since paid for

I also thought I would do the 5.0 if I went Ford. As it was I decided to try a Ram with the Hemi and saved $4000 over a 5.0 Ford with LESS options. The eco would have been $5000 diff. Has been great so far, not 1 issue and mileage seems comparable to the 5.3 Chev Ave I traded. Can get 19-21 on the hwy at 65-70, 16 or so in my local driving. Pretty happy for now!

IMO, the OP should do himself a favor and drive as many full size trucks as possible. I wound up with a Double Cab Tundra 4wd and saved myself quite a bit of money. There is probably not a bad choice and will probably boil down to personal likes and dislikes.

For $4k less, I'd have to give it a lot of thought myself.

I have the 5.0L in my truck. I've been very please with it. I have several friends that have the Ecoboost in theirs. They get pissed when I give them a ride somewhere and I'm getting 1-2mpg better and paid a lot less. It REALLY bothers one of them, enough that he says he wishes I would have had my truck before he bought his.

I like my ecoboost. It's a 4x4, four door with 3.55s. Did a 500-mile trip today and averaged 19.5 mpg at 80. Will get 21 mpg if I keep it a little below 75 or so. Great power and features, too.

I have a 2011 Ecoboost with the MaxTow package. Love it, power is amazing-we drove the 5.0 and the increase in power is noticeable. City mileage is running 16 and higway 19.5, driving it like we stole it.
Mine is a 4door lariat with the 5.5' box.

I drove the Icko-Boost and then bought a Tundra. I had a F-250 diesel and didn't want to test another new Ford engine for them at my expense. The Tundra gets the same mpg as the F-250 did, and is alot nicer ride.
I just got back from driving 450 miles today with a gross combined weight of 18,400# (11,000# trailer was a little heavier than I thought), and I got 12mpg at 60-65mph. Can't beat the engine and the truck; and I can stay mad at Ford for their 6.0 diesel.
I saw a movie where only the military and the police had guns. It was called Schindler's List.

I've read two long term reviews about them. One was in 4Wheeler magazine and the other in Consummer Reports. Both of them really put their test items through extensive testing. Both compare them to other, similar trucks in one way or another. I've never seen them agree of much of anything, probably because they use much different rating systems. But, in the case of the Ford Eco-Boost, they both agree it's one of the very best choices. Don't recall them agreeing on anything before. Neither has reported any long term problems or failings. E

At the 10k mark on my 5.0 I am averaging 20.5-21.5 normal driving and can get 23 if I really try.
