A marlin 30.30 with a modest scope is a pretty solid rig for Whitetail and black bear too. Doesn't kick much and ammo is cheap.

If you are looking for an AR-15 one in 6.8 SPC would be hard to beat for deer.

First if you're handloader download them a bit, if you're not try some Remington managed recoil ammo. Not a bad idea from Ilion...

...............There are numerous cartridges with lower recoil that will all work fine for deer. What platform you choose is your choice. But most including me prefer a bolt action.

243 Win, 6mm Rem, 250 Savage, 257 Roberts, 260 Rem, 6.5x55, 7/08, 7x57.

Pick a nice rifle that handles well that also looks good to you chambered in any one of the above and you`ll do fine.

I`d also include a 308 but you already have a `06.

7mm-08, 243, 260, in that order.

Any and all are quite capable of killing anything in the Adirondacks.

Check out the .257 Roberts!
Rifles chambered for it are somewhat limited, but are out there. Low recoil, and with a 100 gr. bullet pushed around 3100 fps, a great deer killer.

Plenty plenty gun. Do you handload? If so any bullet made for "hunting" and many that ain't will do fine. I've mostly used 70 and 95 grain nosler ballistic tips. Also used 85gr Sierra hollow point boattails. Can't go wrong with Barnes bullets nosler partitions hornady bullets....many choices.

DWG, The 243 is plenty. The 100 gr bullets seem to be what most around here like. You'll need to make sure the gun your looking at has at least a 1 in 10 barrel to stabilize the 100 gr bullet if that's what you want to shoot.

+1 on the 100 gr REM core lokts.....not saying the others don't perform I've just never tried anything else in my 243 so I couldn't say one way or the other

Yes, it's enough gun.

Look at the regular old Rem Core-Lokt ammo, in 100 grain version. Available everywhere.

Or, try to find some Federal Fusion ammo. Great stuff, at barely more money than the Remington stuff.

I like the 7mm/08, .257 Roberts and the .30 WCF.

Another vote for trying the Reduced Recoil loads from Remington. I do believe Federal has reduced loads in its Fusion line as well. Beyond that I would say .257 Roberts, 6.5x55, and 7x57 would be fine choices.
