Received some pics of a 624 and it appears to be a K frame to me. Everything I've seen for sale have been N frames.............

It looks like an N frame 624 to me. How much does the guy want for it?

That's an N-frame 624 wearing the correct mid-80's service ("magna") stocks. The reason it looks smaller is that N-frame target stocks extend about 1/4" below the frame of the gun and enclose the front strap, making it appear larger. Here's some pics of my 624, which is the same model as the 624 pictured above:

The 4" 624 is one of the most desirable S&W 44spls.

With target style grips:

FWIW, the 4" 624 is one of the hardest of the 624's to find for a reasonable price. If you can get it, get it. grin Also, if the seller has the original box, look for a red "c" in a circle. That indicates that the gun was inspected during S&W's recall of this model and it passed inspection. Smith & Wesson did not mark the guns, they marked the boxes so there is no other way to tell. Google up the threads on this subject on the S&W Forum.

I have a 3" round butt one (from the Lew Horton run). A fine piece. Mine came with the box but had no mark so a quick call to a lady at the factory with the SN confirmed mine was OK.

Hey...I think I have one of them. Bought a used S&W 44 special to have for home defense. It was factory ported and I put a set of crimson trace grips on. Shoots very nice. Couldn't find the model # on it but mine looks just like the pics. I'm not up on which S&Ws are the desireable ones cause I kinda like'em all.

Not sure. From what I've been able to find out it involved 500 revolvers out of approximately 21,000 produced (624's and 629's). That just slightly more than 2%. I'm going to contact the seller before I go any further................

It's junk and will blow up in your face. Send to me ASAP for proper disposal. I will even pay shipping.

It's an N frame, and a very nice one at that. I believe about 5000 produced in the 80s. I had a 6 1/2" (sniff, sniff). Still have my blue 4", though. I'm not sure those grips are original, I believe they were all target-style.

Of all the guns I ever let go, wish I had that 624 back. I don't really know what purpose it served, too long for carry, too light for hunting unless you pushed it (why when you can get a .44 mag?), too slow for action pistol. It was just a plain joy to shoot, though, and awesomely accurate.

If the price is right I would buy. S&W will fix it if it is one of the few problem childs. Also, I have an azzload of grips for N-frame's so let me know if you have a particluar interest.

Appreciate the offer. Just got back from picking up the pistol. I'll take better pics tomorrow. Pistol was shot very little. Minor scratch here and there. I'd say overall 95%+ if anyone is interested. Personally, I'm not. grin

I bought a nice 4" 624 in mid-May at a pawn shop for $425. Although I don't need it, the price seemed low for the minty condition such that I couldn't bring myself to pass on it. My "user" 624 is a 5", cut down from 6.5" by the pistol smith at Ahlman's. Since getting a 329PD, I seldom use the 624 'cause the 329PD is the best all around .44 Special that I've ever owned.
