Another thread about our ringing ears made me want to ask the fire what you are doing for your kids hearing protection. Sometimes I can't tell if plugs have sealed in little ears or muffs on little heads.
All I know is I deserve to be beaten if I allow my kids the same hearing loss I've brought on myself.
What are you guys doing? I have a seven year old and three year old that love to shoot with dad. Options will surely get better as they age but I'm taking no chances with their hearing.
Thanks,
Scott

What? Speak up! First off, do not let them shoot 300 plus shotgun rounds with ear plugs, ears will be ringing for the rest of the day.

Save your kids' hearing - get rid of his headphones. Those things are dangerous in that the kids play them WAY too loud. We're in for a whole generation of deaf kids. Next time Jr. is using them, grab them and have a listen to hear what volume he's running. You might be shocked.

Good point. Luckily my kids aren't to that stage yet.

My son uses my retired SWAT muffs that have sound amplification so he can hear me but they shut off even at a loud clap. They work good and they seal really tight as they are designed to go inside a helmet if need be. Before I had those I went and had the custom ones done where they pour the stuff in your ears and they form to the individual ear. A set a year was the norm as he has grown. Small price to pay really.

When I had kids at home, I bought kid sized muffs. They are a whole lot easier to find now.

We can protect them at the range - but that's not where today's kids are losing their hearing. The culprits are earbuds, headphones, and car stereos.
And there's little we can do except try to tell them how dangerous such things are. They'll ignore us, of course.

About the only thing my four year old is serious about is his ear muffs. Even runs to put them on when we run the vaccum cleaner.
Hope this lasts.
