looking for a clean 30.06 for hunting. Can only afford around 4 bills. don't know much about rifles and quality, is a Savage American or Axis a decent starter gun? I don't expect to shoot it a lot but accuracy out to 200 yds. would be nice.

I can't imagine that you'd ever regret owning this one. It's not mine, but a great deal.

The M70 that DD linked is a fantastic deal.

If I were looking for a RH .30-06 this is likely the one I'd buy.

For the money check out the new TC ventures, I bought one in 30-06 and I can't believe the accuracy, they guarantee MOA or better better groups than my weatherby #1 and BAR in the same calibers. They are selling in the $400 range

Where are you located? I have an older Remington 760 Gamemaster in .30-06 that I could part with. It includes a vintage Redfield 3-9x Widefield scope and sling. She ain't modern, but she's a shooter. More than adequate for deer at 200 yards. PM me if you would like some pictures.

Oh, and whether you're interested in mine or not, you'll get far better bang for the buck looking for a good used rifle than buying any of the new ones. If you don't like pump actions (like the 760), look for an older Remington 700 ADL. Your money will buy a lot more used than new these days, and you'll lose less on resale of a used gun you decide you don't like than on a new one, too.

I still have that camouflage Stevens 200 06 with Burris FFII 3-9X40 in signature rings I'd sell for $425 shipped. Unfortunately if you are in a hurry I can't sell it I won't be near my rifles until after the 22nd.

I'm not going nuts trying to sell anything to anyone. I currently own 4 .30-06 rifles so I can part with one. He has posted twice looking to buy, I've offered up the same rifle twice. Could be someone else might be interested in a reasonably priced 06.

Besides what does post count have to do with someone looking to spend money? I don't ship anything until money is in my hands nor do I expect anyone to ship me anything until they get my money. I've taken a risk on new members before and I haven't been burned yet, everyone starts at 0 anyway.

I'll vouch for the OP, he is a friend and neighbor. He is NOT a Gun Loony like myself and many others on this site.

We have just had a change of regulations in our area in the past couple years and rifles are now legal arms for deer and bear.

He's just looking for a lower priced decent gun. I've also pointed out a few to him over the past few months but......just not the right one!

I was thinking that GAP rifle that is listed might fit the bill or maybe order up a NULA for next year......NOT!

Happy Fourth!!

I have a nice Mark X Mauser .30/06 with synthetic stock, bases and rings and 24" barrel that would be in his price range. It is a good shooter. Have him PM me if he is interested.

That is a very reasonably priced New Haven Model 70. It didn't even go at the $400 starting bid. Were I looking for a 30-06 I would strongly consider this one. If you get it at $400 you could have it in hand for $450ish. They're certainly not a lightweight rifle but are a very solid one. Good luck.

I was just in Salem the other day. If I would have known about the rifle, it probably would have went home with me.....Dang....good deal though...

Came across what appears to be a Pre-warning 77RS this morning on GB. It'd be more like $500 in hand rather than $400 budget the OP stated, but it looks NICE. FYI
