I need some new hearing protection for skeet and sporting clays and am looking for some suggestions. I have a set of Howard Leight muffs but they are to bulky for a good cheek weld. The 1000.00 dollar ones are out of the question (i can use foam plugs)
Any reasonable suggestions?
Thanks

Good (soft, not those stiff yellow things) foam plugs work great for me.

When I am on a line with a bunch of rifles, (M-16's, High Power match, etc), with the "CRACK", and sideways noise from flash supressors, or even alone on a bench with overhead cover reflecting noise back at me, I double up plugs and muffs.

For a shotgun though, in an open environment, I prefer just plugs, as they don't get in the way of a good gun mount and cheek weld. Besides, the noise from a shotgun just seems different from a rifle, and takes less to soften it. I'm sure there are technical reasons (lower pressure, less velocity, larger bore, longer barrels, whatever), but I find plugs alone to be fine.

I like the molded to your ear plugs. I think they run about $30 easy and fast to put in and take out.

I prefer the soft foam plugs for shotgun work. The hard yello ones are too poris and just done seem to form to the inner ear.

+1 but they are about $50 around here, but still worth the money in my book.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

The Radians that you mix the two parts togther and form in your ear seem to be okay but i am looking for something a little better that will let me hear normal conversation and then cancel the loud noises!
Thanks all

I've settled on the 3M Push-Ins. Tried many of the other disposables and they all work but the Push-Ins are by far the easiest. They have a plastic stem that allows you to put them in and pull them out. No rolling them up, insert and wait.

Muff type protection gets in my way. Haven't tried the custom fits. After finding these I doubt I will anytime soon.

My first reply to this thread seems to have gotton lost in cyberspace. If it shows up here I apologize for the redundancy. Smart phone frequently outsmarts me.

We had been using the foam plugs and they block noise very well. Got some of the radians and they work very well and are easy to put in. Don't block as much of the noise but they work pretty well and don't interfere with anything. FYI - after getting some old stock from a gear company Radians replaced them and told me they changed their formula late last year. They now set up faster.
