After suffering with the carbine/barrel band fore-end tip since acquiring the rifle in 2002, I got fed up and powered up the cut-off saw this July 4th. Have a good one.

That really changed that into a classic looking single shot!
Very nice.

Looks pretty good. I'd still like to find a #1A forend to stick on one. Already have an extra buttstock.

I tried to like a 1A fore-end on the #3. It was just too long for the short barrel.

But I do find the 1-B (Beavertail) fore-arm to be much too long... Tho' I think I have #1 wood on all of my #3's... GH Edited to add: I think I misspoke myself. I have the 1-S fore-arm on a couple of #3's. The #3, the #1-B, and the #1-S, all have the same "B" weight barrel contour...

Your treatment looks very nice, so I wouldn't worry about replacing it. In my case, I found a nice figured and checkered mannlicher forend for my #3

It was years ago that I tried the switcheroo. It may have been the combination of AH styling and checkering of the 1A fore-end as much as it was the length of the fore-end that did not go well with the straight grip and smooth, un-checkered butt stock. The now abbreviated #3 fore-end is 10" and seems to be 'right'.

A Sightron SII fixed 4X. I selected it specifically for the Ruger #3 because it has 4+" of eye relief. It may have been discontinued.

Thanks, I checked Sightron's websight and it looks like it is indeed discontinued. My No. 3 has an El Paso Weaver on it.

All highly figured Mannlicher forends must be sold to me... That memo must have been shreded before I had a chance to see it. . . Carbon12, Did you use the original #3 stocks for both the forend and buttstock? Either way it's very nice work and improves the "#3 look" by 500%.

I purchased the #3 at a gun show. I suspect that the wood was replacement goods. The carved cheeks on the butt stock was the best clue. Other than the cheeks, all else was Ruger carbine styling. I replaced the curved carbine butt plate with a thin black Pachmayr pad long ago.

carbon12, I bought this .223 No.3 at a gunshow this past Feb. I think the stock and forend are Ruger that have been modified rather than aftermarket. I've added a stud to the forend since I shoot PD's with a Harris bi-pod. I was looking for a .22 Hornet at the time but couldn't pass this one up for $575, especially since it had a Kepplinger set trigger. Shown here with my other Rugers before I left for a Montana PD shoot last month. Dave
