To meet Federal time lines and to gain some 3 billion in partial matching funds, California today pushed through the high speed rail bill which is now headed to the governors desk!
While trying to deal with a 15 billion deficit and passing a budget that depends on the public raising taxes in November... (which I hope isn't going to happen) not to mention putting other important projects on hold.
California has now elected to start selling some 8 billion in bonds to start construction of the high-speed rail project in the central valley...
I'm afraid California legislators has just dealt the killing blow that will finish California off!

Bad part is this will put a decade old plan to upgrade California's water system on hold until sometime after 2014, and I do beleive the central valley could use the water more than a 200mph train.

Cali may be smarter than we think.
Seeing as they are going to be a sanctuary state they might extend the rail to the border and charge fees to transport illegals and import medicinal marijuana for the cartels.
On the return trip they could deliver the arms sold by the ATF.

Reminds me of the proposed new football stadium to be built in downtown Los Angeles next to the Staples Center taking up part of the property that the Convention Center now sits on... To fill the stadium to capacity will require a full 1/3rd of the patrons to take public transit to get there... they don't have enough parking... can see that happening, not! Phil
