Rickster;
Hey !
Long time no chat.
Still too busy to get my 'puter straightened out, but ran across something, and borrowed a 'puter to bounce it off you.
Do we [the board] have any data on the number, models, y.o.m.'s of the 99's w/ tang safeties that CAN be slip closed ?
Till a couple of months ago, I didn't know they existed, then I got a 7-08 and realized they did ! [And why would Savage change to a set up that couldn't be slip closed ????]
Them clip feds ain't as crappy I once thought! Took a Doe with it a week after I bought it. Dropped where she stood @ a measured 80 yards.
Don't know when I'll get to read your reply, but hopefully I'll be back on line pretty soon.
Hope everything is well with you and yours and you all enjoy the Holidays.
Merry Christmas;
-Ross
"RAM" Looks like he is still out there kicking around, somewhere. [color:"red"]PS... All right "Board", what's the answer??? [/color]

Not sure on the answer, I'm just happy to see that RAM's coming back!!! Good to know he's o.k. as well.
Better bone up on my homework and go try to slip close the 284 and the 22-250.
Come to think of it, I still have Ross's email to, never thought of contacting him, just figured he wanted to be left alone.

I don't believe that Savage actually changed the lever on the post mil guns but it is fairly easy to relieve (grind out) enough metal on the lever so it will slip close. I had a .300 F that had been modified to slip close. I remember someone posting about this once upon a time. So, I think that's what RAM has. (My gawd, he spoke well of a post mil gun and a C at that!!) Must not be the same RAM

You squeeze the trigger as you close the lever and it doesn't cock and put pressure on the main spring.

Check the lever and see if it's been altered to slide around the trigger.

I had a .300 F that had been modified to slip close. That was my reply to RAM, also. I wounder why Savage stopped that feature? If someone would post some pictures of the difference or a how-to-do I would make a "sticky" of it.

Yes, it looks 'relieved' in the area that would slide by the trigger. That's how my F was done.

Anyone know how to put arrows and words on this picture to show what and where?
Great picture! Thanks Brent.

I'm guessing that you take metal away at the shiny part in this picture... So that it will pass the back of the trigger at the grove. I will have to admit that slip closing on this tang safety 99 is not as smooth as doing it with a lever safety version but the end result is the same.
