Looking for simple, no DSRL just a point and shoot with a good optical zoom.
Looking at Fujifilm FinePix HS30EXR and the Sony Cyber-shot HX200V
Any help would be appreciated

I had and used a Cannon PowerShot A300 for several years, till I dropped it on a stone floor last year and broke it. Took very good pictures. You might want to check Consumers Reports and see what they say. I bought a DSLR to replace my Canon. I was going to recommend a camera shop, but they're there to sell things and don't always have knowledgeable people.

BTW, optical zoom not really a zoom. Just sort of blows the picture up, like cropping it, and poor quality from what I've seen of ones I tried to do.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ47k 12.1mp 24x optical zoom, Leica lens. I got this one to carry, when I don't want to pack the Nikon DSLR. It takes great picks and you can zoom in on wildlife,or girls at the beach, takes great picks and easy to work. Newegg has it on sale for 284.99 free ship.

I'm partial to the Canon models. Had one Casio that was real good, gave it to my nephew a couple Canon's ago and it is still going strong. <grin>

The Canon models have never let me down and taken quite a beating. Bought a Canon G12 in January and think the world of it but it'd be a tad to big for a pocket in your safari vest. I'd consider the S100 for great pics and easy traveling.

I looked at the Fuji HS30 and didn't like the size. That, and it was outclassed in a lot of ways by the Nikon P510. The Pani is nice, but more than I wanted as I already have a DSLR.

I went with the Nikon P510 and so far it's just amazing.

Last safari wife & I took included a video camera, good quality Sony digital with zoom lenses, & a Olympus Stylus 790SW purchased from Doug. The Stylus fit into a safari shirt pocket & was used the most. Large cameras seem great until you start carrying them around. The photos this little camera took were awesome.

I think that you are confusing optical zoom with digital zoom. I took a Nikon S9100 on a wilderness hunt in Wyoming last year. 18X optical zoom and still fits in your shirt pocket. Takes great pictures also.
