I think you made a fine decision. I'm still trying to figure out what mine likes but I haven't owned it long.

ANGCorsair: yours is an XTR push feed, not one of the new SC Models, right?

ANGCorsair, that's a real pretty rifle.

Thanks. I've wanted this cartridge for some time and I couldn't pass when I saw this one.

It's very easy to carry and shoulders perfectly for me. I'm going to bed it soon as I can't get the accuracy I'm looking for yet. I've tried many powder and bullet combos but just can't get the consistency I'd like.

Is it on a long or short action?
I find with the young'uns the best thing to do for them is give them a proper LOP and if you're starting them in the 10-12 yr old stage a 13 or even 12.75" is often very helpful (5'0" tall would be my example). Try to find another stock for it to chop down and save the new one for yourself. Or chop that one and buy a McWoody as suggested wink
I had a Rem700 Classic in that cartridge and regret selling it. 115gr Partitions at 2900fps is a great starter cartridge and will kill elk and moose handily if required.

Acording to Winchester's website, this year's Shot Show 257 FWT's will be built on a long action. The PF XTR FWT's from the 80's were also on a long action.

(I'm hoping that, if they are on a long action, at least they won't block the magazine.)
