well ive got my step daughter her Remmy 7 youth in 7-08 and i need a scope for it. ive read that the new Weaver K6's are a darn good scope for the money. just wondering what you guys think. i dont have alot of money to spend or i would get her a 6x Leupy but ive got several other rifles that need scopes so need to cut corners some where.

You won't go wrong with the new Weaver K6.

The K series are very impressive little scopes. I like them for low cost, light weight, and more importantly the fully multicoated low light performance. If you ever do feel a need to upgrade you won't be out much money and will have one a heck of a backup - or a very good "starter" scope for another rifle. It far outperforms its cost. I replaced a (relatively) much more expensive VX-1 in favor of the K6.

K6 is a good scope, but I would go lower power for several reasons:
1. Smaller scope is better fit for the small rifle.

2. Younger shooter is not going to be taking long shots.

3. 6x really shows the tremors a lot more than a 4x, and the less experienced the shooter, the more they try to overcompensate and counteract the movement, which ends up producing more movement.

Put on a 4x or ever the V1-3x and do most shooting at lowest setting, especially offhand.

My kids are entitled to whatever glass they want, from that which resides in the stable.

The 6x42 is a landslide favorite and there's more than a few other examples to choose from.

'Course,I'm sweet on it myself............

yes Stick but you have more funds to mess with than i do. i wish i had half what you do, if i did i would be sitting good. my scope purchases for this year will probably be 1 Leupy 6x42 and 2 weavers either 2 K6's or a K6 and a K4 now that Lee has me thinking bout the shake issue.

rattler, a good used El Paso Weaver K4 or K6 can be had for about half of what the new ones run. So, why not get one of each (K4 and K6) of the El Paso vintage and see for yourself which works better? Try to stay in the 60-B series, and away from the standard crosshairs (duplex, dot, or post-and-crosshair). Check Ebay, and ask via PM if you need pointers and decide to go this route.

im fully aware of the used ones but prefer to buy those in person. i have a couple of the older K4's good scopes just was looking to purchase a couple good new scopes without laying out the $ for all new 6x Leupies and the new Weavers seem like a good compromise

Well, if new and high bang for the buck is what you're going for, you can't go far wrong with the new Weaver. I like them... a lot. True, they ain't an M8 or FX Leupold, or a Sightron SII, or a Nikon Monarch... but they ain't off by much... except in the price. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I wasn't discussing fiscal matters. What I was discussing, was my childrens' preferences for fixed 6x glass,as opposed to a multitude of other offerings they've peered through.

That being said, the Leupie 6x42 turns my crank, like no other.................

rattler-the new Nikon, I think its the Pro or Pro Staff or something like that may warrant a look see.

I believe they all right and the price is around $130 and the warranty is solid.

Just a thought

Rattler,

I purchased a Weaver K-6 not to long ago from Steelhead for a great price (thanks Steelhead). The scope is not that bad, being better than most everything else in its price range. Its my first fixed 6, so I don't have anything to compare it with. My plan is to see if the Fixed 6 is agreeable with the type of hunting I do, and I think it will be. If so, I will source a Leupold.

Anyone compared the Leupold 6x42 to the Nikon Monarch 6x42? I'd be interested in your opinions, good or bad.

The Weaver K-series Classics offer much more than anything in their price range The optics are quite goo, thet trac beautifly and they are simple. It's my defaut scope when a greater investment isn't warrented. I'd hunt anywhere with one and not worry about it......Essex
