Through a couple of weird purchases I ended up with two Sako 75. One is a 270 WSM and the other a 7 rem mag.

The 270 shoots ok and would probably do better if I bedded the Edge stock she sits in.

The 7 rem mag does not shoot as well. I was thinking of getting a custom barrel for it. I already have an Edge on the way.

I don't need both a 7 rem mag and a 270 WSM, there is just to much overlap. I could make the 270 into a 300 WSM. That is still a lot of overlap. Than, do I really need to even re-barrel the 7 mag? It shoots a little over an inch as it sits and that is good enough for hunting, but I like tiny little groups.

So here I am, wanting to make two customs out of perfectly good rifles. Someone talk me out of it, PLEASE. This is really a sickness.

stop..no...don't do it.

I'll bet you can get that 7mm doing better than that.I wouldn't change the barrel unless it was a smoth bore.

Sorry,I drank the Sako-Aid.My opinion may be biased.

Why should overlap be a concern? I'm perfectly happy with exact duplication. One should always take a spare on extended wilderness trips.

Sell the 270WSM and spend the money on good glass.

Boy, are you asking the wrong crowd. If you have a 'problem' with alcohol, you need to talk to AA to 'talk you out of' indulging your addiction. You don't ask the regulars at the local pub! wink

1minute, why would you take a spare kidney on a hunting trip and what would you keep it in? grin

Me? I'd rebarrel the WSM to 7 WSM (or RSAUM) and play around with the 7 RM, trying to get it to shoot better. Or better yet, run a Mashburn reamer through it! (But then I'm not much of a .270 guy.)

The inventor of Fart Lok must not present himself as such a waffler. Somebody might start questioning your products. Personally I think they are the berries. I finally got the grind pattern down pat. Very comfortable.

OP:

As far as the rifles are concerned, rebarrel the .270 to 7WSM and the 7 "emem" to .257 Bee. Both at 24" with no more than a #2, 1-9 twist in both please.

Thanks for your continued support of our sport. Holler if you have any other questions. The collective "we" are here to help.

That would work, too, though I would go with a longer tube on the Weatherby.
