I recently bought this gun with several others. I tried to find the date of manufacture but could not. It says sporter underneath and has the pull adjustment screw. The serial number is BS5xxx. Thanks for any help on year and ballpark value.

Based on s/n, it sounds like one of the "Made in Japan" remakes. A picture would help. Depending on vintage, an original would be numbered 3XXXX for a pre A model, 4XXXXA for an A model, 4XXXXB to 7XXXXB for a B model, and 8XXXXC to 9XXXXC C model range. The original sporters were made from 1934 to 1960 at which point the Sporter model was discontinued.

I'm no expert on the repro 52's, but have owned a couple. From what I see they sell in $500-$800 range depending on condition. They were made from the late 80's until mid 90's as I recall.

The 52 Repros whose serial numbers start with "BS" are believed to be from the first batch of Winchesters in 1992 or 1993. There were supposedly 6,000 in that series.
They were followed by those with "WBSXXXX" style serial numbers.

Thanks for the info. It seems to be a very well built rifle. I'm gonna take it out and shoot it a little.

I think after you shoot it you might not want to sell it, I wouldn't sell mine. For what these guns sell for their hard to beat in that price range.
