I have a fairly newly acquired long tang 71. This afternoon I cleaned the barrel really well. Upon examining the inside of the action, I noticed that there was some evidence of very fine file work on the "wings" of the carrier. I tried to take pictures of it using a flashlight to make the filed area shine. Obviously, I hope this is evidence of hand tuning from the factory and not a the recent handiwork of a gunsmith to correct some feeding problem. If you have a 71 and if you have time, I would very much appreciate it if you would lever open your action and really examine yours to see if you also have evidence of filing (blueing filed off) thanks a million.

Dear Pharmvet:
That's the loading gate impacting the top of the carrier, if you mean the two bright spots that are 3/4ths of the way up the carrier oval section.
Send me a PM, and I can show you how to solve that problem.
Sincerely,
Chris Bemis

Here are better pics. How can I circle the areas of interest? I see where some people can circle things with red or white.

Mine doesn't have much bluing left on it. Especially inside the receiver...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA
