Anyone have general impressions of the 1911 as built by STI?
Friend of mine who opened a range/gun shop is looking to try and get this line in his shop.
I'm aware they exist, never shot one. Figured I'd ask the unwashed masses here.
And I know someone will respond "Get Kimber" but he doesn't want to carry them. Too many others already do.

Well made with very tight tolerances.

I have a STI Trojan in 40 S&W. It is a super tight machine and very well made. This particular pistol did take 500-1000 rounds to shoot in, and the Trojan has a reputation for requiring some mag tuning to run 100% (which is true). It also has a reputation for the finish to wear quickly, which it does. Mine is for USPSA shooting specifically. The STI's are favorites with the USPSA crowd. I love the gun, super accurate, great trigger and beautiful even with the finish wear.

That's a beautiful 1911. Capacity with the 40 s&w?
I could like that VERY much. Have to see what kind of Friend of the Shop discount I can get.
Really nice having him open his range 12 minutes from the house. Nicest one I've ever been on. Indoor, everything automated with touch screens. He's in the process of patenting several things on the range. I'd expect them to start selling various range systems in the near future.
I forsee a lot of pistol shooting in the future.

STI is as good as any semi custom 1911 in its price range. Yes they are tight, yes they take some breaking in but day in day and day out they are every bit as good as anything else and they absolutely work!!!
I have had 3 and loved them all, sadly I have none as people offered me way too much not to let them go.
I will own another very soon!

My brother bought one..... His goal seems to be developing the perfect load which when fired from his Ransom Rest..... Will keep using the same bullet hole over and over again.....

Very nice 1911's. Employee owned company, build quality and customer service is top of the line.

40 mags take 8 or 9 flush fit.

Tried to look at the STI web page but my virus program warns that it is possibly infectious.
Anyone know another place to view them?

The escort that I've shot is extremely accurate and very well put together. I too would love to have one in a 40 S&W.

Anyone know another place to view them? You can probably find pics on Dawson precision or Brazos customs. The trojan is entry level on price.

Anyone have general impressions of the 1911 as built by STI? STI builds such a wide variety of '1911' pistols "general impressions" really have to be general. The build quality of their single stacks is fine, but on strictly personal opinion, they manage to incorporate most of the elements I prefer not to have on a 1911. If you like how the pistol is set-up STI is a good choice. The 2011 line is crazy and arguably the basis for the pistol the Marines should have gone with. 26+1 in 9mm? 22+1 in .40 S&W? A guy needs two coffee breaks - one during mag loading and one during firing.

I'm not sure but I think their lowest price model was built on an imported frame and the rest of them they built themself.

I traded for a Ranger II and it seems like a nice pistol but it's the first 1911 I've owned so I have nothing to compare it to. It's ran perfectly and I have no gripes about it.

People rave about the Spartan as well for a $600 1911. If they built one in .40 I would have one of those instead of the Trojan.

No FTF or anything else. Adjustable sights although I'm not real keen on the hi-viz "bead". Kimber .22 conversion fits great, trigger is very good. Dad has it now. Come to think of it, he has most of my stuff.

GREAT GUNS, go to m1911.org forums The STI Rep is very active on the site. He goes by Rabbit. I'm trying to decide between the 2011 Tactical 5.0 w/rail and the Dan Wesson Specialist. Both will require a lenghthy wait, and fat wallet. I'm saving now.
