I now like okra. We do fried, pickled, and in gumbo. The chili purists won't like it, but we cut some up into chili once in a while.

to them, either bugs, some sort of blight, something.
But that stupid okra, it's indestructible, still putting on
into the Fall when she's given up on the garden for the year.

Try this: Cut it in 1/2 inch slices, pour buttermilk over it just enough to coat the okra then meal it. Fry it in about 2 inches of vegetable oil at medium high temperature until it turns golden brown. Sprinkle a little salt on it and you cannot believe how good it is.

I don't care for boiled okra and have never tried pickled okra. I am not an adventuresome eater so I don't try many new dishes. Fried okra is delicious!

Try cutting the okra into strips the long way & fry as usual. Tried it a couple of weeks ago & it was very, very good. A really good texture compared to slicing into rounds.

Bruce, I've never heard of it being fried that way. I may give it a try but, knowing how sot in my ways I is, I prolly won't. smile

I had fried okra today with purple hull peas cooked with butterbeans, creamed corn and fried okra. I could be a vegan pretty easily. All out the garden, naturally. Washed down with sweet iced tea. smile

Mickey that's a nice looking plate but I still haven't acquired a taste for it cept in pickled format only.Maybe if I added a piece of Serrano or Jalapeno it might diminish that fried snot flavor grin

this is about the optimal size Clemson for tenderness. If you're
getting plenty of rain, slightly larger pods will still be tender. I knife-check each one while I'm cutting. Tough pods get tossed to the varmints.
